This older band saw is for sale locally. Can anyone help me out with a possible id on this bandsaw?

Duro 12 inch bandsaw from the late 40's.

Also was sold under the Montgomery Wards brand Powr-Kraft.

Originally a woodworking saw, but there was an optional "speed converter" 15:1 reduction gear for metal.

BTW that stand is original.

I'm looking at the Duro 1949 general line catalog at vintagemachinery.org

$75 seems high unless it has the reduction gear....

Where would the reduction gear be located? He said it needs the tires. I'm going to check it out tomorrow, he'll trade for my 4 1/2" Craftsman vise so it wont really be $75....more like $40.

I can't see the backside in the pics, but the reduction would be between the motor and the saw, but the belt looks to be a direct drive.

You can also use a jack shaft and "gear" it down with pulley's or another option is to find a donor Treadmill and make it completely variable speed...

I think so, as long as you don't go crazy on the conversion. It can be done expensively, or you can do it for just a few bucks.
