I kind of have the same question too. When my father started out in the 1930's, he said the socket set he bought was a Black+Decker. I have the push through ratchet and metal case he said it came in but am curious if it actually was Black+Decker?

Never heard or seen them up in this area. It will be interesting to see if they were sold across the country.

An older B & D lug nut flip socket for the heck of it.

No COO stamp.

It might be better to ask in the "Tools from the Old World" thread.

There are a number of German tool companies that manufacture sockets and most have probably done private label tools at dome point or other.

Heyco is known for doing private label tool production and I think they did make plain sockets like those without knurling at one point.

VBW is another German manufacturer who does private label tools. They are owned by Stahlwille and now mostly manufacture pliers and pipe wrenches, but they used to make regular wrenches and sockets, including plain dockets like those at one point. These ones shown on Worthpoint are sort of similsr, but 6 point.

Gedore, Elora, Hazet, Stahlwille, Dowidat, and Belzer are other manufacturers I can think of.

As above many of the German companies private labeled, you would have to compare to loads of old German sockets to find a match.
Worth mentioning Black and Decker made a ridiculous number of drills and attachments for them here in the UK, was a standard issue item for the home DIY'er from the 50's on, largely because if you wanted something doing you had to do it yourself, most builders were fully occupied rebuilding from WW2.
