Hey compressor experts,

I am wondering if any of you know anything about the Campbell Hausfeld model HS181000. It is an oiled, direct drive, two stage, 5hp, compressor that I am considering purchasing. I went and looked at it today. It builds pressure to 200 psi and it appears the tag says it built in 1990. I cant see where is says the CFM. I have never seen direct drive on such a large compressor which makes me think it is not a good idea, but want your thoughts. I will be using it for some pretty air intensive tasks (blast cabinet). Thoughts?

Thanks!
CAMM

I know it's not the same setup but, I have a 2hp/20 gallon direct drive Ch compressor.

I have worked it very hard spraying, can't kill it. Also has a doerr motor. It's rated for continuous duty but gets hot.

I'm pretty sure that unit has a Powerex pump on it. They make both an oiled-crankcase unit as you have shown above, as well as an oilless model which I would run away from.

The nice thing about that unit is the cooling system, being set up like most air-cooled engines with a good fan and shroud system to direct cooling air over the cylinder and head.

If the oil isn't milky, and the tank doesn't have rusty, oily water coming out, and it makes no funny banging noises when starting up with an empty tank, I'd probably take a chance on it.

I would say based on the 5hp motor and two stage operation that you probably have somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-17cfm air capacity at 90-100psi.

Yup. From this reference (duplex pump so divide by two), their 5HP pump will make about 17.4cfm @100psi. The oil-free and oiled pump specs should be the same, with the oiled pump lasting much longer of course. It doesn't say if this is a single or dual-stage, but it gets you in the neighborhood.

ours is 1989 model, worked it very hard with very little maintenance, just now giving us trouble, and parts are no longer available... Looking for compatible replacement pump Or New Old Stock Parts For Rebuild... Mostly need parts for HP side, reed valves broke and did some damage to valve restrictor plate and piston. If anyone knows of someone that might have ancient Parts on their shelves please message me, I really Liked this Compressor.

Does anyone have information on replacement pump for hs181000 compressor, like what other brands and models had the same pump (I'm pretty sure there was a husky model that was the same compressor) and maybe factory service/repair manual for this compressor.
I believe there was an upgraded part number for complete pump assembly, but i cannot find it any more.

Loved the one we had, 30 years worked great with minimal maintenance, only reason ours quit was reed valve wore out, broke, and fell in piston cylinder.
