So I was at the pawn shop near my house and saw a craftsman professional corded electric impact 7.5 amp, it looked like it was from the 90's, so i turn it over and I see made in USA. The price tag says 35 dollars. I would to try to get it at 20

I go on ebay dont see any like it, so I'm curious whats it worth? are they reliable? Should I get it?

My friends say to avoid craftsman power tools like the plague, yet my dad bought a cman drill in the 90s (made in usa) and it still works fine.

I always like the idea of expanding my USA tool collection.

it looks like this

I've got one, never tried to do much more with it than change tires but for that, it works fine.

Looks like HF may have copied it, I paid $32 I think new for my HF.

If you ever buy anything decent cordless you will never pick up the old clunker again, too heavy, too bulky, but it should do the job on lighter tasks, lug nuts etc.

I would start low on offers and maybe buy it with a few other items if they have anything you like. I don't like pawn shops, so I tend to make a game of getting the best price, especially on an item I have no pressing need for.

This is only $30 we are talking about..I've got air, cordless, and my C-man impacts...I have already got my $30 use out of it...I just drove a bunch of lag bolts with it while working on my pool area renovation... My cordless impacts don't have the torque that this one has...

O wow, made in USA, I was a bit surprised at that honestly. Actually there was a guy that posted his box a while back and had one of those in it. I asked him about it, since quite a few of my friends like to work on their cars, but don't have the money/space/power for a compressor. IIRC He said it worked well for tire swaps and suspension work without a compressor. Plenty of power. Main downside I remember him saying was clearance for anything "inboard" making it hard to get to some bolt/nuts that a more compact pneumatic gun could get to. IDK, maybe do a search on here. If you can get it for $20 I'd definitely try it just for a learning experience; $35 sure, if you NEEDED an impact. Just my 2¢

I'm not sure if I would agree with your friends saying "avoid craftsman power tools like the plague" that just seems to broad of a statement to stand by itself.

Those are good "bookends" numbers. Meet somewhere in the middle.

I agree with your Dad (I am of that vintage also) ! Older Craftsman power tools are well made and reliable. I noticed that it also had the yellow "Professional" wording on it, which meant it was a bit more robust. I have a 1/2 drill from that area. I will never need another drill and it is over 30 years old !

Excellent impact, made by Black & Decker / DeWalt. Those 900. power tools that Sears sold were some of the best power tools to ever carry the Craftsman name.

Mine, think I gave $25 for it (just used it the other day):
