I have come across an older jet machinist vise that I am thinking about buying. I spent quite a bit of time trying to find info on it yesterday and found zilch.

If anyone has any info please enlighten me.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but nothing with the Jet name on it is made here. Jet started out in the 60's as Tacoma Equipment Co. (Or a name close) They eventually took on the Jet name after the founder, Mr. Sussman who also founded Boeing Aircraft Co. Its an import, not that it isn't any good.

I bought this Jet vise about 35 years ago, and it has been a really fine tool. Made in....wait for it....France! It was quite expensive as I remember, not a whole lot less that a Starrett, and even now has almost no play at all. If this is the one you're looking at, I highly recommend it.

At the time, Jet was importing from all over the globe--I also got a really nice bench drill press that was made in Japan, and it is also a very fine tool.

Unfortunately, a band saw purchased a few years later (made in China during the 80's before quality control was discovered there) is a hideous P.O.S. that I curse every time I use.
