Older Matco lower box

I found an older Matco lower box for sale. 9 drawer and it looked like the top drawer was only about a inch or so tall, the drawers gradually get bigger and the bottom drawer is about 5" tall. Very low profile looking drawers. The box looks to have ball bearing slides and has the 2 handles on each drawer.

So if this box needed a cleaning, maybe shoot a coat of paint on it depending how **** you are, what would you pay for it? Or what would be considered a fair price?

I think $150 is a fair price...though I'd definitely try to get it lower...maybe $100. I had a very similar Mac box. Had two drawer slides on each side for the bottom drawer. I would've kept it and resprayed it, but I worked out a deal with that box and some cash for a much nicer box.

Ya I would love to get this box and shoot a fresh coat of paint on it. It just seems perfect for what I have, along with my upper I already have. Im a wrench fein and I dont have enough room in my upper as it is. I could really use those extra 9 drawers. If this guy is asking 200 bucks, how would you go about making a 100 dollar offer without pissinbg the guy off or being disrespectful?

Educate him on everything you see wrong with it, and let him know how much work you think it needs to bring it back to nice.

Of course, he still could get pissed off, but it's worked for me with vises in the past.

Good luck that's a cool box!

I just talked to him. He's firm at 150. I really like the box but like he said it needs some tlc. I could care less about it being a Matco box. I just like the size and the drawer layout. What do you guys think for 150?

Personally I'd give no more than about $40 for that box in that condition... and that's if I just really needed a box right that moment. But that's just my 2 cents.

What's the used toolbox situation there? Better to jump on this or wait for another one? Are you okay with putting the work in to clean this one up?

I know sometimes I've passed on a box b/c I really didn't feel like putting in all the work on it that I knew it would need.

I say buy it. I have the Proto upper box version and it is very heavy duty. I wish I could get this deal.

You'll get lots of replies to a question about price / what people think something is worth...and a lot of the replies are typically "I wouldn't pay even close to that..." etc...

If YOU like it and YOU think it's worth it, then buy it! It's not like you're looking to flip it for a profit...so you will get your money's worth out if it over time.

Around here, I would gladly give $150 for that box. I can't find anything that nice around here, ever...and if I did, it would be double what your guy is firm on.

Good luck!

Since you like the box and it has the drawer layout you are looking for, sounds like a no brainer. The fact that it might only be worth $50 to me is meaningless, maybe the layout doesn't meet my needs, or whatever.

Actually, I like the drawer layout quite a bit. I would wonder how the larger one slides with a lot of weight in it.
