I'm going to check out these boxes in the morning. The seller has had them for a while, and I'm sure he could have given more info. However, he seemed to have a cold or something, and I couldn't understand everything he said. I figured if I'm going to look at them tomorrow anyway I may as well not bother him with more questions over the phone.

I'm pretty sure he said Mac, but they don't seem to have any badges on them. I seem to remember a Waterloo that looked similar, but didn't Waterloo make boxes for different brands?

Can anyone tell me approximately when they were made? Should the bottom drawer have a handle? Does anything seem to be missing?

Now most of all does $225 seem reasonable?

I want a vintage toolbox, and I've been looking for something I like that fits the budget as well. All I have at this point are hand carry toolboxes. I've never had enough tools to warrant a larger toolbox, but this site has had a significant impact on that facet of my tool identity:shocking:.

As always, any help you guys can give would be appreciated. Thanks,

Billy M.

My 2¢?

a.) It is a waterloo made waterloo box. Possibly for someone else. 1970's.
b.) Not worth the asking price. Not much storage and the condition doesn't look that great. + I'm not a fan of those deep middle drawers.
c.) The bottom drawer isn't a drawer but a fold up cover. It may or may not have a handle. It looks like it has a recess and a small knob.

I have a top box identical to the one pictured. Mine is branded Mac. I seen the same box with many different tool company logos.

Almost looks like they masked off the bottom few inches of that lower cab and under coated it to hide the rust. Old used car trick up here in the NE.......

there was another thread a while back a guy was looking for a handle for a box like that. believe the handles were scripted with the mac logo. maybe this is an unbranded box or of a different era? id prob have went 200 on the box max, but i like those old boxes for some reason. a newer box would have smoother slides for the price you paid, but not the quality of the metal. you didnt do bad, just not a score, IMO.

I would say RemLine as well because Waterloo handles were more like hollow sheet steel drawer pull handles, RemLine made handles like those strap type steel, they made boxes for M-Wards PowerKraft in the severnties that looked just like these but only sold in the red and gray hammer tone through M-Wards. Red or the combo colors were through RemLine dealers. Mac had others make tool boxes until later than this was sold so being labeled Mac would not be off. $225.00 is ok if box is perfect only, but it will be stronger than imported boxes of today if it is a RemLine box.

Well... $225 is only the asking price. I think I'd be willing to bargain if I ended up short of 200. But, as I keep saying, prices in CA are always higher. You guys really have it made when it comes to used merchandise.

not sure about the bottom box, but they do look like matching pair.
top box sure looks waterloo built. drawer configuration and side handles.
I had a MAC toolbox once that was like that(waterloo built) in every aspect except it had the later drawer handles.
for your main box you could do better moneywise. bigger and roller bearing drawers.
if you already have a "main" box and just want a vintage piece it is cool.
but not at that price. i'd be suspect at that blacked out lower section.
and i'd probably only spend $150 tops on that, but i'm cheap:lol:
