I picked up an old Oliver 15" disc sander. I went through it that last couple days, wired it up (original General 3 phase) and lo and behold it works.

The disc currently spins clockwise, which I could see as being a positive as the table is supported on the rt side, so any force would be by the support.

Is there a correct rotation on these?

I don't know about a big old Oliver but most just Sanders at I have seen rotate clockwise as you are looking at them.
Don't hold me to it but I think I heard that some people actually have a reversing switch on them and run both ways oh, maybe it helps clean the sandpaper.
Of course you don't want to go past the center of the disc you wanted the disk to be going down, in relation to your work.

My State has a reversing switch, so goes both ways allowing full use of the disc’s grit.

You just have to use the appropriate side of the table determined by rotation.
