I was on my way to pick up an air handler to make a compressor aftercooler, when I ran into a guy at Home Depot who sold me this vise. I figured it was a good deal at $20, even though I had never heard of Omega. I did not weigh it, but it seems to be pretty heavy for its size.

I'm not sure if it is a rebrand or not, I cant find any other markings on it and I have never heard of them before. Anyone familiar with them? I was wondering if the quality was good or should I keep looking for an older model USA made vise...

Omega Industrial Tools vise, 6", made in Taiwan
serial # 026445
model# HDV- ?

I believe the same people that made the Allied vises also made the Omega's, or at least used the same design. At least I know who made the little Columbian I've had since I was a kid.

For an import vise they sure are strong. Mine has taken a hell of a beating over the years. My father gave it to me after picking it up at a yard sale for like $10.00 or so. Now I need to find/make a swivel base.

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
I had that vise but it was Rockford brand, which is just another name someone slaps on Chinese vises. Two of my buddies broke the whole front jaw off of it trying to straighen a bumper from a 78' Bronco, up until then it did a great job. Of course my dufus buddies claimed it was cracked already so they wouldn't pay for it, that was last time I granted them access to my garage without me being around.

I know what you mean, almost every tool of mine that broke was done by someone else. I loaned a friend of mine a 2" knockout, he brought it back in pieces. He decided to use it on some 1/4" aluminum plate after he finished his electrical panel...
