Hey all,
I'm trying to figure out what kind/how many light fixtures i'm going to need to light up a one car garage (12x24). I don't want something extravagant but i do spend some of time down there so i'd like a good bit of light. Right now i'm just using a single 100 watt halogen bulb, i think GE reveal or something. i was looking into fluorescent bulb (http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc...splay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 something like that) i was wondering would one suffice or would i need more?

any help would be greatly appreciated,
-Riktar

My garage is 11 X 20 by 10' high.
I have 5 of the ones you linked from HomeDepot and I'm actually looking at adding more.

1 will not be enough.

The 100w equivalent (23w usage) CF "daylight" bulbs throw a lot of light for the cost, if you have multiple sockets or can put them up. I've got 3 4 foot tubes with daylight and then 6 of the CFs in my 24x24 and there's not many shadows anymore :)

I have a 12x20 garage and I have 7, 4-foot T-8 fixtures. It's bright enough for surgery in there. When I get my 18x22 built later this summer I plan to run 9 fixtures in it.

I have a 10x20 and I have (4) 4' double T-8 fixtures. I could probably use another 1 or 2 in there too.

I have 6 4ft T8 lights in my garage that is 15x23 and I'm still seriously considering another 3 lights. It's bright right now, but I do a lot of work in the middle of the night and frequently it's detail oriented.
With that said I don't think I could want more than the 3 extra lights. it's bright.

my VERY slow progress is documented here...

I have two 100 Watt halogen bulbs in a 14 X26 Shed. It's only enough light to walk around, I need a trouble light to do anything at all. Like checking the oil in the mower. Definately need more than that.

A minimum of 4 2-tube T-8 fixtures would be my recommendation with a max of 8 to really make good lighting for most all types of work. Of course the spacing needs to be considered for optimum lighting with minimum shadows.
