I will have been in my house for a year this June and all off my other DIY projects have been completed; including a full kitchen demo and remodel, removed all the popcorn ceilings, painted the entire house, added crown molding to every room, laid new tile flooring, etc, etc.
I haven't taken a break and I don't intend too; time for a garage makeover!!

Here is what I have to work with; 21'x13', attached, one car garage.
It's not much, but I intend on fully utilizing the space!
There will be some challenges; what to do with that HVAC plumbing?! *see pictures

Future plans include:
  • RaceDeck Flooring
  • Custom 90* work bench in back right corner
  • Removing old shelves and building some sort of custom/built-in storage
  • More electrical outlets
  • Lighting upgrades
  • Removing the wood panneling and replacing with drywall/slatwall/pegboard
  • Stereo
  • A convenience store style mini-fridge full of beverages

I hope to check off everything on that list, but a few things still require convincing the wife that they're needs and not wants.
She parks her car in the garage throughout the workweek, so I keep telling her that "I'm doing it for you, love."

I have some sketches nearly drawn up and will scan them once they're finished to illustrate how I visualize this turning out.

For now, here are pictures in its current state -- don't mind the clutter on the floor!

Good size single as a basis. Yes i can see how the HVAC looks like a challenge. A rework of that stuff looks like it would save you tons of room.

And in an effort to help you out purging unnecessary items i'll send you my address for the VW emblem :)

Good luck with your project! I'm in to see the progress.

Wow, that ducting is a sore thumb. If it can't be rerouted can you just cover it with some tin ducting? At least then it can be painted to somewhat blend in.

I knew you'd be the first to respond! ;)

Yeah, it's going to be a chore to tidy it up.
I may leave it as is and just accept that's it's there.
We'll see what happens..

Yes it will be a chore, but don't kid yourself, we all know your not leaving it as is. New floor, new walls, and flex ducting everywhere? Just take your time, ask questions, and plan. It will all come together.

Oh so true!
I'm thinking some sort of rectangular ducting that will lay flat against the ceiling is in order, but I have no experience with HVAC stuff.
I'll find a local specialist to come out and take a look.

Haha. Happy wife, happy life.
Besides, her 4Motion Tiguan is worth more then my GLI.
Just protecting my investment... and my marriage. ;)

Yeah, you will definitely have to get creative with the ductwork. I think you're on the right path. Keep us updated!

I can't wait to see the progress on this one. This should be a big turnaround!

I'm in Asheville, what part of NC are you in?

Minus the HVAC work, I see a ton of potential in this unit. Love me some single car builds. Looking forward to some updates! Good luck
