We have been married 32 years and she has never had her car in the garage. I built last year a 30x48 garage and told he she can now have the 2 car on the house. But the deal is she can have nothing in my new one. It works for us.

One car on the left side, and the bench, boxes, wood stove and four wheeler is on the right. If it were ten years ago there would be all of that and another car and two bikes in there. I've finally come to the realization that you need to account for walking room to be able to actually get work or play done. Btw once the wife parks in the garage she's not leaving, the parties over! Lol

Attached garage - is basically for my wife and I am trying to keep the kids bikes and other junk in there too.

My detached shop (36x42) on the other hand is mine, sometimes I can park in there other times not so much. When things are really organized I get both the truck and my car in there. Kids yard stuff seems to keep making its way into my shop because it is so easy to clean up the yard by putting it just inside the man door of my shop....ugggh!

Interesting...being a person who sees lots of garages...how many of them actually have a shop in them?

Not many. And at the risk of sounding like Bill Clinton, it depends on what you mean by shop. A typical garage has old plywood cabinets along the walls and boxes eating up floor space.

Maybe 10-20% have some sort of workbench with a few basic tools hanging on a pegboard.

Full blown shop with floor machinery (wood or metal) piped air system and tool chests would be way less than 5%. Probably in the 1% range.

That being said, if you go into the suburban areas where parcels are 2+ acres, dedicated shop buildings with fairly serious tooling and equipment can be found in at least a third of the properties.

Hey guy's my wifes been giving me a hard time about not being able to park her car in our two car garage, truth is the only thing thats ever been parked in there is my 65 Chevelle, a long out of control project. I won't store her house **** in there so she has her own storage unit, we are planning t build a second garage with a second floor apartment, but she is sure that I will fill it with tools and machinery. So how manny of you have a two car garage that only fits one or less cars? I need to show her that Im not the only one.

This is the exact predicament I am in right now. I have a 20x20 that houses my '65 Beaumont, and my wife is giving me the gears about wanting to park inside for the winter. I ask the same question, why isnt the driveway good enough? She says 'Its a two car garage, why cant I park inside?' Currently in negotiations trying to come up with a better solution. Unfortunately I do not have room to build a seperate detached shop, that would be the cats ***..... Got any more pics of your '65 Chevelle ? Here is one of mine

I park my jet skis in my 2 car. No room to park a car, but I can pull one in to work on it in the cold and rain. Otherwise, most work gets done in the driveway, right where the cars are parked every day.

Recently built a 22x29, so it's a wide 2-car. My wife parking inside was part of the "deal", but she's got a Mini Cooper S, which doesn't take up too much space. I put in a laser parking aid, so she parks it about a foot inside the door of one bay. That leaves some usable workbench/shop space in front of the Mini. The other bay is 100% mine.

Actually, her car is pretty nice, and my "car sensibility" says that the garage is the right place for it. Our daily driver Jeep SUV parks outside.

Also helping the situation: washer and drier are in the house, tankless water heater is outdoors, extra "house stuff" is in the attic, and garden tools go in a shed.

Right now I have my 73 Porsche, 2008 Harley, and our family car (2011 Mazda CX9) in the 2 car garage... My wife's car and my truck are outside..

As soon as my shop is set up (see sig) the Porsche and probably Harley will be going over there, so her car goes in the attached garage. To me the attached garage is a "luxury" item for the daily driver type cars to be sheltered.. Work garage if at all possible should be a separate entity. We also have a 10x16 shed for lawn stuff.

My wife and I were blessed enough to be able to build our first home. I had only 2 requests, I want control over the garage, and the basement, everything else you can do whatever you would like, I don't care if you put a toilet in the middle of the kitchen. She does have a spot in the garage though :(

I have a 3-car garage that holds 2 cars, one fun and one grocery getter, plus my bench, shelves, cabinets, bikes, etc. The shed holds the yard and garden tools. Works perfectly!

my 19x22 is dark, cold and cramped.

i keep my old riding mower & utility trailer outside.
my harley and off road truck stay inside, with mechanics tools & welding/fab equipment

i have a single lane driveway, and no access to park along the side in the grass. my '00 sierra and service truck stay in the street unless were expecting significant overnight snow, then i try to clear the street for plowing

once winter sets in i clear out enough room for the wifes car to be inside, if she wants it inside.
when she was working, it was always inside, nowadays not so much anymore, she's in no hurry to get anywhere...

i moke stuff like work stands, pressure washer ect to the basement to free up some room.
all woodworking type things stay in the basement, i have a 12x25 reloading room down there to contain most of it.

Is there a toilet in the middle of the kitchen?

My wife gets one bay of our 3 car garage. 2 of my mustangs fill the other 2 bays, and the 30x40 pole barn houses my other Mustang and all of my tools. My truck lives outside, but I hope th keep it in the barn if I ever get around the replacing the sliding door with and overhead door.
She only parks inside in the winter, and spends the summer months filling her bay with junk. Then, when cold weather hits, she complains that she can't get her car in the garage. Go figure!

We have a 24x24 attached garage. I used to park and work my cars in it but now it is a mess as the laundry is in it and with two toddlers it is a work zone. I have been reorganizing the whole space so I can park in it again. Almost there..

Single car (small, very small) garage. My '67 gets that space (no way I'm leaving her outside) and my poor S10 gets the street. Currently remodeling and trying to wring out storage from every available square inch. There's an attached laundry room that's getting the remodel treatment with kitchen cabinets bought of Craigslist. Every time I read "pole barn" or "3 car" I get so jealous!

Nice looking 67 Carl! 24x26 for me (gonna add 8' in spring). I park my 69 RS Camaro (currently in a bag) on one side the wifes car on the other. Unfortunately my 2002 F150 is parked in the driveway.

My wife gets the complete 2 car house garage for herself. Her Olds is setting in my garage. My Cub Cadet CUT is setting in my garage. My mill and lathe is in my garage, and my POS Dodge Ram is still slowly rusting away sitting outside. I told her that I have to add on somewhere. Either in the back of the existing garage, or in the front of the existing garage. I absolutely hate vehicles sitting outside.

2 car garage. No cars inside. I have two 8' doors. Gf's truck will fit but getting in and out isn't fun. My dually won't fit through the opening. Tools and 3 motorcycles occupy the garage.

Have a 26x25 attached garage, always have her car and my truck in there. I've always gone with a pre 2007 Toyota Tundra for a pickup because it fits in my garage and leaves a lot of room between it and my bench. Also have a detached 20x20 for other stuff and my 1970 Cyclone is in there but is too small of a space to do work. IMO the cost of vehicles these days I'm not going to leave them outside in the cold winter and hot summer. Also warming up a vehicle in the winter every morning is just a big waste of gas. I'm in the middle of adding another 30x26 onto our garage, this will give me the project space I've always needed. The two story in the photo is the new addition.

Pretty darn nice looking car you got there as well! Original black plate California car and it looks like you did the Power Tour. Nice.
