One heavy a$$ed bench

So, I dont get around these parts much, but I do lurk here and there...Long story short, Since I left the Hot rod game professionally, Ive been storing my life, buying here and there in hopes to establish my own shop...Nothing for the public, just my toy box...Ive been keeping an eye out for a chassis table, or fab bench etc when my buddy out in Indiana posted his for sale...6 feet wide, 12 feet long, 2 and a half inches thick on top, the rest of the build materials are 3/8's thick..>Coming in at a total of 8800 pounds, here she in at my full time job for now. Once I get settled into a new building she will come home... It was a hell of a trip getting it from Brownsburg Indiana to her home here in Connecticut..Thank God for crazy buddies who dont take no for an answer haha... Ill have to take better photos eventually...


Before I bring it home, I plan to shorten up the height some, eliminate the bottom shelf, and true her up a bit. I may also drill and tap some fixturing holes in it...Plan is to also build some ramps so worst case I can roll stuff on and off, maybe even park on it with some added bracing..

Wow, I thought mine was heavy! I had to use the winch on my 4 wheeler to get off its back and back upright. I don't know how many lbs it weighs, but it was almost too much for 5 guys to slide off a trailer. (before I added the steel top)

That would require extra footings wouldn't it. Good score has it been blanchard ground so you could use it a precision build bench for layout and prototyping.

thanks guys...Its way overkill..haha BUT i couldnt beat the price, and even with all the hassle and trips, Im into it less the the price of the top plate through my supplier...Had to bring in some heavy artillery to load her

If it was ground, there is no evidence left that it was...All the work I plan to do on it doesnt require it...I level and square everything at ride height. The 2 floors it has been on recently are nothing special. It helps that the bottom is "framed" to distribute the weight

what did it cost to get it from Indiana to CT and how did you get it there??? flatbed??? I cant even imagine LOADING it onto a flat bed... Its not like you can "kinda sorta" get it on a flatbed and "push" it with a couple guys to where you want it on the bed of the truck. The thing ways close to 9000 lbs! Maybe you get it on a flat bed and then bring in a fork lift??? Can a fork lift LIFT something like that?? We need more details!

That is a monster size bench. I have one 6' by 12' but with just a 1/2" top. They make a really nice reference plane to build on.

Im laughing my *** off reading some of these replies...and to answer some questions...To initially move it, we used a small fork lift to pick it up just enough to put tubing under it...then we maneuvered it out the shop..Once outside, a rollback unsuccessfully attempted to lift it, I thought he was gonna flop the truck on his side, and I called it off....That was the beginning of Oct of this year... AFTER attempting to talk to and hire numerous haulers, 2 of my buddies decided they were gonna get it for me. They went out with a lifted crew cab super duty and a trailer...I hired Brownsburg Auto Transport to flip and load the bench, which you can see them doing in the second photo i posted (they hired a second truck)...The trip back we lost trailer brakes due to some wiring issues (trailer is a year old) on the "highest elevation east of the Mississippi"...fixed in a parking lot, we got it home. We used a crane to unload, and then the next day, the guys at the shop I work at used our 10000 lb forklift to flip it back over... Then we put it in place as you guys see it... The trip was actually the hardest part. All three of us worked a full day, and left that night, 47 hrs we were home...I credit the whole trip to my buddies, as I didnt drive, just sat in back, paid for the gas and food, and laughed my *** off...The top plate is roughly 5400 dollars or so from my supplier, and Im into it less then that...As for tapping, nothing a mag drill cant fix. haha

thats actually similar to what my intents are...You're looking at my chassis table to build my cars on...hot rods, customs, custom trucks, drag and land speedracing stuff mainly, but Im into everything, so who knows what will end up on it
