I started a new job doing maintenance in a hospital, there is lots of HVAC involved. I went to appliance service / HVAC school but that was 24 years ago and lots has changed over the years. I have a 608 permit to handle ref. but I would like to learn more to be better at my job. The local CC is not having the HVAC night class this year so I was looking at online courses and wanted to know if anyone has experience with them or a opinion. I know hands on is the best.
I looked at Penn Foster ($699.00) and Ashworth ($648.00)

Same thing with Johnstone Supply, low cost certification classes should be starting up soon in most areas of country.

Not online, but don't forget vo-tech schools. Some of them offer night classes for adults.

I took online HVAC classes about 6 years ago and I would say it wasnt much help. If you have a handle on HVAC allready then on the job experince and company tec support should get you rolling and up to speed fairly fast. This post caught my eye since I did appliance repair for six years and have been doing maintenance at a hospital for a little over six years. Good luck with your new job.

thanks everybody for the responses, I looked into the link provided, there are not any vo-tech schools around anymore they were taken over by the University of Arkansas and are now comunity colleges but they are not offering night HVAC class in the next term. Littly Jimmy I may have to pm you some if I need help, tomorrow I am going to start getting some model numbers on the new chillers and try to get some tech info on them.

rkevins, go ahead and ask away! We run York chillers with VFD's and I have learned a lot over the last few years with them.
