Looks like yet another tax passes with little fanfare and everyone getting pats on the back. Online Sales Tax passes the US Communist Goverment.

I did contact my c-man and said "how about we just do away with sales tax altogether instead of more taxation?" Don't know why I bother, this country is running amuck w/ creative taxation and the working man is footing the bill.

Don't know about your neck of the woods, but I have seen more tax legislation passed in the past 10 years than any other time period.

Time to Tool Up before enacted. Free enterprise takes another kick to the gut today.........

seriously?
Online taxes are gonna help the local stores. Amazon has to pay their share. Why should they be exempt to pay taxes?

From what I understand, you have to have $1M plus in sales before you take the hit. It also has to make it past the House, it's not law yet. Also I understand that the tax applied will be the sales tax where the buyer is located. Sounds like a drop ship business opportunity for people in low or no sales tax areas.

1M in sales is drop in bucket, even start ups like cripes, epstein, and others probably will be affected. Considering not much markup on tools but price of tools included in the 1M outline. You might have to sell a million in tools just to make a living, imo.

Not to familiar, but states where the buyer lives is broadcasting for the tax revenue, so sellers will have to compute states that have sales tax. Logistics nightmare. Don't know about oversea vendors, but sure there is something for everyone to pay up to the gov.

I do know several people here that have been audited and assessed tax due for internet purchases on computers etc. for business as the "law" actually already exists here.

The history of taxation in america is interesting, but this thing has been heading like a snowball to hell rather rapidly

IBTL . . . . and they think they'll charge sales tax on **** "sold" on Ebay . . . not going to happen.

Ebay would just morph back into true barter system . . ie quasi Craigslist.

Computing the tax will be a huge burden but paying it won't be easy either. Sales taxes vary from county to county within states and apply differently to foods, beverages, clothing, etc. Each state has it's own forms, schedules, and requirements for paying the sales tax. It's going to be a nightmare to keep up with and will change the face of retail as we know it. Why is it so easy to pass legislation that the majority of folks don't actually want and so hard to pass legislation that we do? This is a battle between retail giants like WalMart and Amazon....the lobbyists win again.

But, rest assured, businesses the size of Amazon will be (and have been already) negotiating and setting up agreements with various states to manage this issue. It will be the small / intermediate businesses (the ones without lobbying strength and negotiating leverage) that get crushed by this.

States that want the tax have to provide free software to the retailer and create a single point of collection.

Is this in effect now? I just made an Amazon purchase moments ago. With the Prime member ship, I'm used to paying what the price was stated. My total was 4 bucks more than I was expecting.

On the other hand, could it have been attributed that I am sitting in Tennessee and had my purchase sent to my home in Michigan?

I know I didn't look real close, it may have been a purchase from an authorized seller. I dunno?
