I just installed a 24K, 2 head Mitsubishi unit in my detached garage. Garage dimensions are 40x40 with 12 foot high walls and sloped interior ceiling which at the peak is 17 feet. R49 insulation in the ceiling and R21 in the walls. So far it seems to be operating fine. Perhaps a bit undersized but I understand that is the preference versus oversizing.
Only 24k for 1800sqft?

can you give me that in mW at an EER of 9.8?I been looking at a 96000 oz mini split
If the space is maintaining the setpoint without excessive run times under normal operating conditions, then you have sized the unit correctly. Sounds like your garage is pretty well insulated, thus allowing for a little bit smaller unit vs. going solely on square footage.

Working on the install now. Question for those that have installed the outdoor portions of Mr Cool splits. The installation manual says to "not install the condenser in direct sunlight. My plan was to install my condenser on the West side of my shop which has no shading. The unit would be in direct sunlight from about noon till sunset. Anyone know the basis for this? Has anyone installed the condenser in direct sunlight?

I installed the mr cool diy 24k mini split a few weeks ago. I am very happy with it so far. Got it from Costco for $1500 plus tax shipped to my door. I have nothing to compare it to but I would highly recommend.

Get a small awning to shade it. But in real world it really doesn't make much of a difference. Mine is in the same spot as yours, in direct sunlight and has no problems. In the winter I remove the shade to get direct sunlight to the outside unit.
