Open End Wrench Suggestions?

I need the following open end wrenches:

1/2 x 9/16
9/16 x 5/8
5/8 x 11/16

I was going to pick these up at Whia but before I did I thought I'd check in and see if anyone had a better suggestion. I need very good quality. Any suggestions?

Ebay has a ton of individual wrenches, you can pick the brand you want and often combine shipping. I'm sure others will throw in their $.02 too, but after having problems with certain wrenches spreading I buy almost nothing but Snap On and SK. I know there is other quality out there, but I feel very confident with those. Used prices would be at least the same as you posted, if not less.

I really like my snap on flank drive wrenches. I wouldn't buy any other open wrenches than flank drive type.

Williams is "almost Snap-On" less expensive and better warranty.

I just today was on the phone with both Williams and Snap-On CS. Both reps were pleasant, but the Williams rep regretfully informed me that no rebuild kits were available for my old S-52 ratchet, but I should just send it in to a certain address and they'd get a new one (presumably a S-52A) out to me right away.

The Snap-On rep was equally pleasant and even though I had my part numbers ready, double checked to make sure I really needed what I was ordering, however since I was not the original owner (nor even the current one) of the two ratchet wrenches for which I was ordering reversing lever repair kits, I did in fact have to pay (a nominal fee) for them. If the wrenches had broken irreparably, I guess I would have been *** out.

S-K are nice and what I use for my combo wrenches, but they don't have the "flank drive" feature that SO and Williams do.

If you are trying to match Wiha, the German style wrenches are thinner than the US ones, more like a short tappet wrench. I've had no problems with any of those, and often they're problem solvers. I use my no-name German double open ends (I replaced a missing one with a Heyco and it's nearly a perfect match) often when holding caliper slide pins while tightening the bolts. Wiha, Heyco, and Hazet (and probably others, but those are the ones I've got in my box) all make similar wrenches. SO, SK, Williams open ends will likely have smaller heads but will be thicker.

Proto?

Around same cost though. Get something you can warranty if necessary.

Try ebay and check out the numerous selections of Snap On open end wrenches.
I'm sure you will find plenty to suit your needs.
As bareass pointed out, I don't think you will be disappointed.

Wright Model 1318, 1320, 1322. Looks to be a little cheaper and better warranty in the US than the heyco made Wiha wrenches you have listed.

I was thumbing through a Fastenal magazine the other day and the Armstrongs look really nice. Didn't have a price though. And you would have to ask somebody other than me about the warranty. I love the SK's. Flank drive is something I would definitely want in an open end wrench but everyone knows the Snap On guy is proud of his products.

Wright would be My first suggestion to.. I am pretty happy with mine..


I also have some strays from proto, SK, cornwell, Klien, Armsrtong, and Crapstman.. I think Proto would be my second choice..

Again thanks for all that participated. I ended up getting 2 of the three wrenches given to me. They are Proto and will be fine for now. The only one I'm missing is the 5/8 x 11/16. Being a bit ****, now I want the missing wrench to be Proto also. Anyone want to let a Proto 5/8 x 11/16 OE wrench go for a decent price?

I recently dealt with Wiha (USA) for "warranty" and it was delightful and easy, albeit through the mail. It was for a new order though, one of the pieces was bad, so they took good care of me through email. Don't know if that's the same as warranty, but it should be similar.

I mention this because I've been eying a set of Heyco wrenches for some time.
