Open Stock Wrenches at Sears

My local Sears has almost all of their open stock wrenches on clearance for anywhere from 20% to 50% off. This includes the ratcheting wrenches, combination, offset, etc. I even found a 1" full polish stubby for $10. I don't know if they are trying to clear out the US made stuff - no one I talked to knew why. May be worth looking into if you go into Sears for anything.

My two local stores are doing something really strange with the open stock wrenches. Several weeks ago they deeply discounted some but certainly not all. Example: 27ish dollar flex stubby for $4.97. Then the next size was regular price then the next size was $17.00 from 28.
I keep trolling waiting to pick up the others if they were to rotate the sale but all I keep seeing are the same old stickers and empty shelf pegs next to the full price remaining items.
I can't seem to find a marketing ploy that explains this but I did get a couple of nice USA made wrenches for very cheap. Just no way to complete a set this way.

Saw the same thing at a local Sears yesterday, not just Cman either, most of the Gearwrench open stock wrenches were marked down. At least two thirds of the pegs are bare. Also saw several sections of non-wrench wall space in the tool dept. that were completely bare, no pegs/tags/shelving. Seems like a bad sign.

I checked out one of the local Sears and it was kind of meh, mostly ratcheting wrenches that I don't use very often anyway. Or it just wasn't marked down enough to be worthwhile to have a 3rd or 4th 7mm wrench.

There was really no rhyme or reason to the mark downs, some were only a buck or two off of $20, then others were marked down 40-50%.

Went to a few local sears today. 2/3 of the stores has sales going on for the "professional" line, some gear wrench and some ratcheting craftsman wrenches. Some were on sale, the next size +/- wouldn't be... no clue whats up with that.

Picked up a few wrenches tho :D

my local store has a bunch of craftsman pro screwdrivers in the clearance section, but not really much of any clearance price... at $6.50+ each, they can forget anyone buying them!
There's no more craftsman pro screwdrivers on screwdriver rack there, so looks like they're getting rid of their craftsman pro screwdriver stock

They're all still full price locally and online. Maybe they're not getting rid of them entirely (they still are part of the industreal catalog) but you won't have an easy local source anymore. I guess if the stores don't move what they have in another month they may start marking them down.

What confuses me is that they have nothing to fill the empty space with. I get it, they're slow sellers, but to leave a large blank spot on the wall doesn't look good, particularly for a retailer like Sears which already has the reputation of having one foot in the grave.

My store is having some kind of open stock screwdriver blow out. The racks are just about empty. Picked clean.

I didn't really look, because there were no Craftsman Professionals left, and only a few picked through acetate handle regular Craftsman.

Thanks for the heads up on this. While I was there today I thought to look at the wrenches and found 17 and 18mm gearwrench stubbys for $2.49 each.

The two stores i hit did that. All the odd metric sizes, 7, 9, 11 and so forth all the way up were at blow out prices. The next month they had all the even sizes at blow out prices.

Makes you almost think they're going to a HF style arrangement where you can only buy sets in stores. If you want something to fill a skip in a set, replace a lost tool, or get one warrantied, they can "order it for you, and have it shipped to your home!"

How convenient if you need it NOW to get the job done.

Or, the store you're at is going to be on the chopping block soon and they're just clearing out what they can before the liquidator comes in.

Same thing here. That wouldn't be the Monroe, NC store would it? :)

Couldn't make any sense of it, just seemed completely random

My sears only discounted the wrenches by a dollar or two nothing spectacular
