Open Top Tool Bag

I keep a small collection of tools out in my garage (the tool chest is in the basement). It includes pliers, some wrenches, 3/8 inch ratchet and sockets (metric), screw drivers, utility blades, hammer, tape measure, etc. The bag I have now is way too small (about 9 x 9) so I keep a bunch of stuff stored under a roller stool as well. I am looking to get a bigger bag (preferably with a hard bottom) that can hold the tools and maybe my M18 impact driver and or drill. That way when I am doing stuff around the house or outside (hanging stuff, replacing faucet valves, hanging doors, riding mower maintenance, bike flat tire change to name the stuff I did in the last month) I can carry it around and have what I need.

I have spotted the Milwaukee packout tote and the much more expensive veto options. I also spied the toughbuilt stuff, which looks interesting since I can hang expansion sets off of it. I think minimum I am looking at is 16". 20" would be OK too.

So, did I miss any options or does anyone have any of these and have a strong opinion?

For years I worked out of a 5 gallon plastic bucket with a Bucket Boss insert that had both internal and external pockets.

I have been using a 10" Husky tote for probably 5-6 years. I took the shoulder strap off...



It's got all my hand tools for around the house jobs.

Pliers on one end.
Torx drivers along one side.
Hex drivers along the other side.
Screwdrivers on the other end.

Inside pockets:
2 adjustables (6" and 10")
2 channellocks
punches, pens, markers
studfinder, headlamp, wire sheath stripper, non-contact tester

It's small but I can throw in the M12 hex driver, the M12 drill and a bit set.
At that point it's getting too heavy to carry comfortably and it's time to divide and conquer with another bag.

Earlier this summer I found a larger one at the curb in perfect condition - an 18" tote with wheels - that Mrs_No_Garage turned into her rolling craft bag faster that you can say Martha Stewart.

I second Jim’s comment. I use the same bag for my inside tool kit for the house.
