We bought a house a few years back, and one of the big reasons we bought the one we did was the 20x40 pole barn garage in the back yard. It has 2 - 9' wide x 8' tall doors on the short end, and within the first year of owning the place I finished off the back 18' and insulated and heated it to make into a wood shop, and still leave plenty of room for parking. At the time I was doing that I had a project 71 bug that I thought might be nice to be able to bring into the heated side so I built half of the wall hinged so I could open it up.

Today was actually the first time I had a need to do so. My headlights on my Frontier had always been a little high, but after putting in a leveling kit today I knew I was going to have to adjust the headlights. Reading the official method to do so meant a 25' level area in front of the truck to aim, and since my driveway is not level i decided it was time to open up the full 40' of the shop.

First I had to move the **** I had put in front of the door out of the way so it could open, fortunately it wasn't much. So here is the opening sequence in pictures... sorry for the poor quality cell phone pics.

Fully closed.

And the truck in place with the lights where they need to be.

And for those of you that recognize the sign I have on the man door, yes, the bike is black.

Nice setup. You probably came to the same realsation as me, that you can have too much of a big space when it comes to heating it - almost impossible at times. Well, totally impossible unless you have access to free heat from a neighbouring nuke plant or something. :)

Yes, definitely a lot nicer to heat closed in and smaller. You can see the little 220 heater hanging on the wall above the chop saw in the last couple pics. Keeps it comfortable on the colder days here in western WA (not too cold for the rest of you, got below 20 deg F the other day but that's about as bad as it gets)
