Opening a new garage

I've been chewing on the idea of opening a garage for business for a while now. A few days ago I've decided to make the leap into this new in a sense world.

I'm converting a barn into the actual garage for business. I have three stalls/bays. Two of the three stalls are more compact. One is very tall with some decent width. Tall as in Shaquille O'neal could walk under a Ford Excursion and there is still twelve feet to go.

Speaking of height, one of my big questions has to do with lifts. I suppose in the bigger stall I could get a two post or even a four post lift installed. The big question is do I really want to go this route or would I be better off with three scissor lifts.

The biggest stall with all that height has a width of 13 feet. Would that be a problem with choosing any of the lifts. Is 13 feet enough room for any of this and still be able to work comfortably?

I will post more questions as they come up but this first one I need to address pronto.

Thanks in advance for any and all answers.

I dont know what you do for a living now, but if you are involved with the automotive industry in any way you can sign up as a member on the iATN. I would sign up there and then monitor the Shop Management Forum. Tons of very knowledgeable guys over there. You will learn all you ever wanted to know about owning an repair shop.

Besides the usual suggestions like get all your permits in line, tax numbers, insurances etc etc,........
My main suggestion is to not make the mistake of pricing your self too low. If anything start out as the highest priced guy in town. It is easy to lower your prices if you find out they are hurting you after a while, but very hard to raise them. Low prices will only attract low paying customers :(
