What is everyone's opinion on Empire levels, straight edges, calipers, and other tools?

I'm a fan, I like them better than a lot of other options but haven't used too many other brands so I'm curious.

This is my clever signature.

I got an Empire torpedo level and a straight edge. I've had no problems with either and they have given me good service. The torpedo is US made, the straight edge is from across the big pond.

I don't have anything bad to say about them. Their rules and combination squares and quick squares are tools I use every day.

That being said, as far as levels go, I only use/trust stabila.

I have a 2 of their plastic levels a 2ft and a 4ft and many torpedo ones and a few adjustable squares. They are US made and good at what they do, but I got a lot of other levels My main 2' and 4' are either my aluminum johnson's and Israeli husky levels and for the torpedo I use a stabila. I think empire has more stuff off shore than johnson, but both make stuff in the USA. Also you can go tell someone to grab your 4 foot Johnson.

I have two torpedoes, and use a 36" and 48" at work. The quality is good, I've been satisfied with them.

I've heard they are very good (I have two that I've never had a problem with and they pass the quick flip them over to check for accuracy test), but not as durable on a construction site as Stabila. For most homeowners and people here that's irrelevant. Not too many full time construction workers on this forum.

I use my two Empire levels for welding things together. Never had something come out bad that wasn't my fault!

I dropped my empire topedo level a couple feet and seems to be not working properly with the flip test. Is there a way to adjust?

I'm planning buying the stainless combo squres soon. Maybe I can keep a decent squre free of rust.

Empire levels with the True Blue vials are actually quite good. Very durable and also pretty sensitive too. I usually stay away from their cheaper levels without the True Blue vials.

Empire true-blue torpedo... decent quality and functions fine. Though I really like my Stabila 4'. Have a few aluminum speed squares, also fine. Carpenters squares always seem to rust and become illegible.

I had an Empire metal machinist style protractor, with the rectangular head and swivel arm. It was made in India, build quality was low, and the laser etched degree markings were off 3°. I gave it away.

That being said, I see they have USA made products, and I like the blue color. I'm a fan of Johnson (that's what she said) and I've never tried other Empire products, have to give them a shot in the future.
