I am looking to heat my garage this winter. The garage is attached to the house. The dimensions are 32 X 24 with 9 foot ceilings. The walls have R-13, the ceiling has R-30, and the doors are R-8.

I was looking at this 40k btu NG unit: http://www.mrheater.com/product.aspx?catid=50&id=41

Anybody have any experience with this unit? I am trying to do this on a tight budget and this seems like a cost effective solution.

Your garage is about the same size as mine. My ceiling is a little higher. I have that heater only in the smaller size. I keep it set around 45-50 degrees - mainly to melt the snow off the cars (and tractor if I plow). I'm in the country so am on LP.

It does fine for my my needs. I obviously don't do a whole lot in the garage in the winter time. It would probably be fine set at a higher temp but then my wife would come home and open/shut the garage door and I'd be chased inside.

lowes has the mr heater 45k btu unit for $377, take a 10% lowes moving coupon and you can snag it for $340. Its the square version with the exhaust, the picture is wrong on the lowes web page.

I was looking at the 45k Mr. Heater unit at Lowes. It looks like a good heater, but it requires a vent pipe and 110v to run the fans. I would have to cut through the drywall ceiling as well as my roof (which I'm not crazy about cutting into the roof) for the vent pipe. I would also have to install a 15 amp circuit and 110v receptacle. It would be quite the project to get the heater running.

The radiant model that I was looking at only requires NG, which I already have in my garage. Basically just hang the heater, hook up the gas line and fire it up.
