I was thinking about getting the Snap on 36 inch Pry Bar.

I even entertained getting a MAC (I was surprised by the visual quality of the MAC pry-bar)

I have 2 Mayhew short ones, and they are pretty good.

Since Pry-Bars are pretty simple, I don't know if I can justfy the cost of the Snappy one.

I have also heard that Snappy is making one that has a strikable surface like the Mayhew. (Anyone seen these? or is this internet fiction)

I own all the Craftsman Professional prybars, they're really nice. I also have a 18in Matco straight one, for odd situations. The handle is molded in taiwan though ;)

Matco and MAC both offer a prybar with a metal striking endcap now. ;)

Mahew (and those who rebadge them) makes a good prybar for the money.

I've got a set of the HF ones (3 all-black ones for like $*) that are great for light-duty tasks like popping loose trim panels and applying pressure to an alternator while tightening the tension adjuster.

Got some part numbers? How much are they?

$147 for a standard 4 piece set. I can get the part numbers off of mine tomorrow, and I'll get some pics. My snap on guy said they will be replacing the standard non striking cap bars. He first got them on the truck about 3 months ago.

I'm pretty impressed with the Mayhew Dominator line. I think they are pretty tough and the price and availability is good. I don't like the idea of spending too much on something that is going to get beat up and treated pretty roughly. On the other hand, spend too little (HF,etc.) and its going to let you down when you least expect it or can afford it.

Even the Snap Ons with the regular plastic handles will take a beating. At home, I use craftsmans. They have held up just fine. My boss uses Matco's at work and they are excellent but pricey and possibly made in taiwan.

I have actually broken the HF ones twice, I have never broken the Cman or SO

One thing to consider (although not terribly important) is that the Craftsman pro/mayhew, and probably that matco's as well, are much thicker than the Snap On's. I'd say a good 1/8" thicker on the square shank of each equivalent length.

I guess that the snap on's get their strength through the metal alloy and treatment, and the other need to rely a little more on mass.

I also have the Cman pro's, which I now have in one of our companies work vans, and use them now and then when were working on entry gate jobs.

I have the new Mac ones and I like them very much!! Plus my dealer will replace the whole thing when the tip breaks or it is worn out.......A definite plus in my book, Not like snappy just replacing the blade. I have not had to replace one yet though.

Yeah, look on the bottom of the handle, where the shank enters it. It'll say "Molded in Taiwan".

Anyway, yeah that must be thinking he can sell those for that considering the person will go to SO's site, see the regular $150 price, and assume these cost more because of the striking ends, not even bothering to to talk to a dealer. I'll ask him about them Wednesday, no rush.

If you get the new s/o with the striking cap, they have to replace the whole thing, the handles on these don't slide off, from what my dealer told me.

I have the regular s/o set 4 years going, i got the basic set and the 36" was free at that time. The 36" is about 100 bucks alone.

I bought the "nicer" HF set for $8 instead of $6 for the cheap ones. I still eyeball the Craftsman Pro set, maybe if one of my cheapo's fails to perform next time the Craftsman set is on sale half price I might get it.

The 36 inch Snap on model is pretty hard to beat for that particular size. It's great for axles, control arms, or anything else you need to persuade. The blade doesn't flex. I'm not sure if any prybar is worth $100 but, that one may be. I also own the a couple of the Mayhew dominators, OTC, Matcos, and the Craftsman pro set. All perform well. If I needed an basic selection, I would recommend the Craftsman pro set when it's on sale and depending on avaiable funds, either the 36 inch Snap on model or a Mayhew 42" dominator bar. Shop around for the Mayhew bar as there is a wide gap in pricing.

your gonna laugh, i have the HF set and the craftsman pros with strike cap. I always grap my HF ones first unless I need to hit it with a hammer or i'm using alot of force. the 10" HF prybar is probably my favorite tool in my box.

Correct me if im wrong, but looks like S/O found some use for their their old tooling to make those handles, the shanks are definitely from s/o.....

Great color too you can see them from the corner of your eye....

if you look through the williams catalog you'll find a lot of tools discontinued by snap on have made it there.
