Nice set but $329 is lot of money for 81 pieces.

You really should have bought the master 3/8" set from Sunex back when they had the $100 rebate a year ago.

I'd still shop around for comparable Sunex set.

Nice set however Amazon.com is NOT an authorized GP dealer so if you need to invoke the lifetime warranty GP will not accept it. Several GJ members have stated GP did not warranty items purchased from Amazon.

You should just buy the 3580 set though. Same/better quality than GP, same number of pieces and much cheaper. I have many different Sunex impact sets and they've all served me very well.

IMO, I'd go with Sunex. My experience with Gearwrench is Taiwan= Pretty good, China= Not so much, you're taking a chance

When I got my sunex set I was looking at gearwrench first but saw a few reviews complaining about the broche (sp?) depth being too shallow or not shallow enough on the deeps. I can't remember which it was. I know a couple guys who are happy with them though.

I would place Gearwrench impact sockets above Sunex and Grey Pneumatic. To begin with their swivel sockets have a much thinner collar than either GP or Sunex which offers improved access. Although much more expensive Gearwrench also offers the pinless impact swivel sockets in 3/8 & 1/2 drive which also happen to be probably the last tool they offer that is US made right now. Additionally, Gearwrench uses large, easy to read high vis size markings combined with decent sized stamped size markings. Although Gearwrench's size offerings may not be as wide as Sunex or GP when you get over 3/4 drive, they a wide assortment to cover most applications. Honestly, all three brands will serve you well and it might come down to price, rebates, & availability.

Back to the original question, what do you work on? The reason I ask, is that GP set linked has a lot of SAE in it. If you don't need SAE, then I would look at a metric only set.

As much as I like GP, I've never seen a company go so far out of its way to avoid warranty service. I recently contacted them to get a list of both online and local authorized distributors. One would think that living in West PA, there might be a fair few. Wrong.

Tool Source is literally the only authorized online distributor, and the nearest "local" distributor is 70 miles away in the middle of nowhere. That seems to be the pattern for their so called "local" authorized distributors, none are near any cities or even large towns, all seem to be out in bumf@ck, Yourstatehere.... Also, warranties are only honored through authorized distributors, they will not deal with you directly.

As I see it, your better off going w/ Sunex, but if you must get GP, Save yourself some money and just buy through amazon or whoever has it cheapest, if something breaks there are tons of e-tailers you can buy the individual part from since GP's turnaround time is about as fast as paving a driveway with a fork and high hopes.

I have the sunex master set linked here. I LOVE it. good quality sockets, extensions and so forth. My set arrived with a damaged 17mm deep socket. I called sunex and got a REAL person after a few options who told me no problem they would ship it right out. 4 days later I had a new socket in my mailbox.

They also had no issue giving me that rebate gift card when I turned in a printed out receipt from ebay and the proof of purchase.

Are there better sets out there for more money-yup. But for the money the sunex stuff is great. Its top notch stuff Id rate above homeowner grade, but below tool truck by a slight bit.

Go with Sunex or Tekton...

The set you started with, Grey-Pneumatic, is really over priced...

Either Tekton or Sunex is better value and has vastly superior customer service, especially Tekton...The two sets are both Taiwanese...You'll do well with either...

Don't go tekton its cr-v not cr-mo. aka its not as good a material and is harder on impact anvils.

Sunex and GP are both good brands. I agree with the Grey Pnuematic warranty issues though. As for being in bumfuck its normally near big rig shops because heavy tech love their sockets. I have yet to break a gp socket that wasn't a swivel and it took the next drive size up impact to do it. I have broken a hand full of sunex sockets but, they are still very good in my opinion.

In my professional opinion the grey pnuematic set is better if you are a mechanic or technician. If you are a weekend warrior or home use Sunex. The 3580 set does not go as low in size or as high in size and the 1281.

sunex stands behind there warranty no matter where u got.....just got to mail it in.....and sizes are engraved not just lasered on.....i vote sunex....cheap on ebay and CPO outlet. tooltopia as well

the one thing i dont like about the sunex set is the torx that is included. personally i feel that they are just trying to up the piece count. give me a couple more sizes of sockets add the long universal sockets and if i want the torx i will buy a complete torx set with long and short lengths

Sunex is hard to beat. They only have a few sockets that aren't lifetime warranty and those are the thinwall and thinwall flip sockets. I've noted here before that we buy the Sunex thinwall flips for our tire techs and they get 6 moths or more out of them of 10 hour a day abuse in a ridiculously busy tire shop.

What was stated here earlier is also true about the Cr-Mo vs. Cr-V. Chrome Molybdenum steel is far superior to Chrome Vanadium for impact use as it is more shatter resistant. Sunex sockets also have dual size markings. Do yourself a favor and check out their website to see just how many diffferent sets they offer. The most comparable set to the one you originally posted however is the Sunex 3580. Here is a link for it on tooltopia.com.

I use the Sunnex in 3/8" drive. There are times they get wailed on all day. I've had the set 3 yrs, and haven't hurt one yet. Personally I think they're the best bang for the buck.
