Opinion wanted on a Quincy compressor

I'm looking for opinions on this Quincy compressor. It is a model 216. What do you guys think it's worth? If I go look at it, what should I check for to make sure it's rebuildable? Thanks.

If it needs a rebuild, what should I look for? I know that the pump should spin freely, **** air, and not have any knocks. Anything else I should look for? Thanks.

The fact that it doesn't build pressure above 30 psi tells us it has a problem. Might be the pressure switch but maybe the valves/reeds or rings. Look at the compressor with the idea of rebuilding it and offer accordingly.

I'm thinking the tank should be larger for a 5hp setup?

You should take the side access plate off and visually inspect the internals. Take a mirror and flashlight with you so you can look for scoring on the cylinder walls. Broken conrods and big chunks of metal in the sump = BAD!

I could be wrong but those legs look homemade like someone welded them to the side of a tank out of a scrap of channel steel.

If so, don't even think of buying this unit. You have an unsafe homemade tank/stand and a top heavy worn out compressor!! In fact it looks like it could fall over anytime since the entire weight of the pump is not even over the tank.

That is a cobbled together setup. Who takes a photo like that? Someone that doesn't want you to see that it's been pieced together. That is a headache in the making unless you love farting around with others peoples problem. You could probably get it for a deal though.

What the hell kind of legs are those?

I can't believe Compressor Parts want $295 for the kit. I can do the same kit for $210.

Exactly what I was thinking, word for word. The lack of lighting seems to be "convenient" in this case.

O... and I"m sure the reason it is bolted to that wooden skid is because it has absolutely no chance of staying upright on it's own. Just draw a few mental lines going through the approx CG and compare that to the footprint of the metal legs on the tank. That skid was added after the fact someone realized it is as stable as a spinning top, not spinning. I'd purchase it for $40 just for the motor and possibly the pump. $200? No way.

I would stay away from that one.

There are way better and safer that work which can be had for that money.
