Keep an eye on CL. You should be able to get a good one, complete for 50$ or less. Patience is the key. I've got around 70$ ******* in my B&D 8" heavy duty pedestal grinder.

No better than most other imports out there in my belief. As others have said, good used ones get the job done well. I have an old Rockwell that was given to me. I got lucky, the maintenance foreman at my old job said to me, "I put a bunch of stuff aside for you in the broom closet, I couldn't bear to see it get tossed".

Funny thing was I actually USED that grinder a few times (even though I was in the marketing department) when it was on the manufacturing floor! I was one of the few guys that actually used to use the tools and equipment at the place rather than just push paper :).

I'd go and buy a DeWalt one for half the price. CL isn't bad if you know what to look for and have the stuff come up on it. While I'm not in the market for one, in two years I have seen one Baldor for a price I'd pay on CL. Even craftsman blocks don't pop up much, mostly just cheap ****.

Actually, that's not a bad grinder at all. Jet is a reputable name, and cast iron guards + 1/2 HP for $169 shipped.... could do much worse than that.

Ideally, a used Baldor on CL is the best way to go but those deals can be few and far between, and even then you'll be hard pressed to find one at the price above. For your needs the Jet sounds fine.

I disagree. The 6" Jet is a whopping 5 amps and comes with cast guards and weighs nearly 40 lbs. It's a lot more grinder then the generic Chinese imports.

There's no better grinder out there than a 30-50 year old one made in the states. No ********. They will last 300 years, the most well built machines i have ever seen as an electrician.

Burrking and a few others can put them to shame though. Stone wheels are becoming a thing of the past. Belt driven high HP arbors are the way to go.

Baldor wire wheels are still made in this country, Most all the others are made in China.
This is an item that I'd spend the extra dough for a US sourced product.

If you save money on a wire wheel be sure and wear a face mask when you use it because it will be throwing bits of wire at you.

unlike tool storage that never shows up, i seem to have a knack for finding grinders. i have a wissota, a delta and an albert lea. all slightly different but each as good as the next. they spool up fast and free wheel long after shutdown and their width makes it easier to work with long and odd shaped items.

i am with espyking, there are no better built grinders than than those older usa grinders. all of my newer imports have gone away and i don't miss them one bit.
