I have decided this week that I need a bigger gun for the shop. Ive always been partial to IRs but dont really want to spend the money for one of the top end ones. Has anyone ever used the cheaper IR 259 that claims it can be used on 3/8 hose? Or is there another brand out there that will perform just as well for the money. It wnt be used very often, but I wish I would have had one twice this week. As far as that goes would I be better off to get an inch drive gun? You guys that work in the truck shops let me know what you think.
Thanks

Wheels? There isn't many replacements for a #5 spline 6" anvil gun. They are pretty hefty at around 30lbs, but it is all in body positioning. I'm only 170 and it's no problem at all. Some days as many as 40 wheels. Practically none of the weight is placed on my arms or back, again stance is the key.

Wasting your time with 3/4 guns. Sure they handle tractors with aluminum rims (the 2141 does anyways) or dayton rims, but a trailer or tractor with hub pilot steelies that are rusty just doesn't work out well. I know rim composition shouldn't have anything to do with lugs/studs, but it seems like the rust spreads faster. Bonus points if you end up with an IRTI 1" gun with extended anvil. Much lighter.

Now if we are talking drivetrain/suspension work, I would opt for the lightest composite full size gun you can get ahold of. There is a new 2141 max coming out soon, and I did use a 1600TH aircat for a real short while. Those 7-8lb guns are much more convenient for working overhead than the 15lb all aluminum guns like the IR261 I often end up using.

I'm a US tool guy all the way, and if your can confirm IR or any others are made in the US, buy it.

If not, an/or for occasional use, the HF Earthquake is a great gun for the money.
