This Delta DP 220 table top drill press popped up on CL for $75 and my internet searching of a cost-benefit ratio shows all over the place. Probably from the 1940s/50s.

I have no idea of condition, but does not look pristine. 4 speed, 1/3 hp motor. The seller says no table, only the base. Not sure why that would be, or what it would cost to get a table. Clearly the user is adjusting the height by adjusting the motor/spindle head height.

I could use a smaller table top precision DP.

Thoughts?

(edit) Let me add in that I'd like something with slow speed, generally for cutting holes in metal, from sheet steel to 1/2". I currently use my son's Craftsman floor model (stores it in my garage), but it is a bit wonky for heavy work.

It never came with an adjustable height table. That's a specialty production setup, designed for a jig to locate a part and the DP to drill one hole again and again. There was originally a mate sitting beside it. Given the cost of Delta DP parts on eBay, I'd pay $75 for that one.

It's not a great general purpose DP and it would take up a lot more bench space, but still probably would do what you need done.

As was said, you could part it out and make money. As a general use press, however, its not the best choice.

Hard to see from that photo but that unit came as a floor model only. There should be a huge cast iron base under that platen.

Production table design doesn't look like Delta. Can't peg who made it, but there have been so many 2 3/4" column drill press manufacturers over the years it could be anybody.

For $75, I would have grabbed it for the table alone !

I've got a floor model 22o with the production table, you can change the table height with a crank handle on the column. Its a neat machine, the tip is to use a vise with enough mass to keep everything still when drilling as there aren't any holes or slots for clamps.
