OPINIONS on garage please

Hi folks.........

This is a photo of my old garage. It was nice worked well, but would like a little more oooomphaaa in the new one.

The new home has a 3.5 garage vs this 2 car.

Any ideas? What you like-dont like?

Im thinking about staying away from red (played out)

Should I go with some nice aluminum cabinets? These kitchen ones worked fine but I only lived there for 4 years.

Just wanting thoughts and opinions.

Also, I USE my garage. Woodworking, car cleaning, and car tuning.

Tone for cabinets I am a huge fan of old metal kitchen cabinets you can usually get them cheap if not free and clean them up and paint them any color you like . Mine happen to be ford blue since I am a ford fan .

The options are endless as to what you can do. It usually boils down to money. The one thing I can suggest is separating the "car stuff" area from the "wood working stuff" area. They do not go well together!

I had standard Lowe's kitchen cabinets in my garage for the first 8 years and they started to fall apart. I think the dramatic temperature and humidity changes took its toll and the particleboard just couldn't hold up to the changes. The faces were solid oak and they held up fine, but the rest of the cabinet didn't.

I opted for the Gladiator premier series of cabinets now and I'm quite happy. When Sears runs a sale on them, they aren't too badly priced either. That plus the lifetime warranty had me sold. If money were no object though, I would take Lista in a heartbeat!

My Lowes cabinets fell apart while assembling them! I took them back and then just got some doors and made my own. Cost me half as much, and since everyone in this forum has a compressor already, its a great justification to get a nail gun.

I just made them just like the cheap particle board cabinets, but I did them out of oak playwood for half the cost.

If your doors are good, I say just make new cabinets, its not very complicated for sure.

Here is the pic of the cabinets I built. Total cost was 180 bucks for each one. There are two there, 8 feet of storage. I can put just about everything in there now and the garage stays nice and tidy.

Its much more tidy now though, I put the shelves in and have a large selection of plastic bins holding everything so its ultra organized.

It all depends on what's going to make you happy and how much you can spend.
There is nothing wrong with recycled kitchen cabinets for storage!
You would most likely be happier with separate work areas, keep the saw dust from the cars and the grease off the wood.
Your old shop looks clean and organized and you will probably do the same with the new one.
