Rasps for wood, but a file will work. You will clog with wood, so get a fine brass brush for cleaning.

Probably just fine for that. As said you'll do better with wood with a double-cut file, a rasp, power sanding or bladed edge tools.

Just picked up a brand new Nicholson which was delivered a week ago and its stamped Brazil.

As with anything multiple sizes can be helpful. Warding to 18" mill files all have their time to shine.

If you have access to a flea market i suggest you get your files there. Nicholson, Simonds, Heller all made in the USA. You will be glad you bought them. It isn't that hard to make them pretty again. Just picked up 2 Craftsman rat tails for a song.
