I am building a 40x50 pole barn with game room above. I plan to heat and cool the entire building. My builder is installing solar guard insulation. His options were this stuff or the cheaper double bubble stuff. Anyone on here use this stuff with any success? I'm in NE Oklahoma so it gets below freezing in the winter and above 100 in the summer. It looks awful thin to me.

As a resident of OKC I was hoping to see some feedback. In my very humble opinion as someone who has not built his garage yet, I would be more concerned with reflecting radiant heat in the summer more than insulating for winter. It just doesnt stay cold long enough around here and the summers....well...you know how those are.

My house garage doors face the west which make it unbearable in the summer to work in. My barn will face the east to eliminate that evening sun. I plan to use something like that solar guard on the walls and then regular insulation (celluose or batts) in the ceiling. I will have boxed eaves for venting, a vented ridge, and a door/window on each gable (I'm using attic trusses).

Yes it looks thin - not much thicker than kitchen aluminum foil.

I have my home's trusses covered in this stuff. SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT in attic temps during the summer. It won't help much with freezing temps or humidity, but it will help to keep the roof from radiating heat into the attic or living area below.
