Did the seller tell you the brand?

He didn't know and he wasn't going to get up out of this rocking chair to check. I asked about jaw width, he didn't know. I asked about smooth operation and was told 'it works about as good as any old vise would work'.

It's a 45 mile drive but it's a nice day here and the wife wants to go for a ride. Guess I'll go check it out.

For $25 its a steal as long as it works. If nothing else, you'll always be able to sell it if you come across a better vise

I'm no expert, but as long as it works, it seems like a steal, no matter what brand it is.

Just got back. Waste of time! It looked good from a distance but as soon as I picked it up I noticed it weighed all of 40lbs. I grabbed the jaw and pulled to see how loose it was and the bar slid out 3" before it grabbed! The replaceable jaws were welded on! There was a big chunk missing in the body that someone had filled with welding rod and finally, when I turned it over and looked underneath it said 'Made in India'! Oh well, had a nice drive through the wine country. Guess I'll just keep watching craigslist! Thanks for all the quick responses!

Bummer about the vise. But when I take my wife to Napa, it takes 2 airline tickets to fly 3000 miles, a car rental, wine tours and I get a headache. Buy way to much really good wine.
Sure would be nice to get out of this Florida humidity for a while.
Have a good one,
Joe

He changed the ad & lowered the price to $20:
Just lowered the price because someone said it was made in India and there is no name on it. How that affects the thing from working I'm not sure but if it fails to work as a vise you can use it for a MOTHER-IN-LAW LIFE JACKET.

Sorry I did not see this sooner. I could have saved you the trouble. I have one of those old turds someone gave me. I never used it, and will someday dump it. It is ****!

Did you call him on it...point out what a POS it was and how you wasted your time going to look at it?!

That's the downside of CL...sometimes it's a deal...sometimes a POS! :shocking:

I was just talking to someone the other day about a workbench that came with a vise...he didn't like my offer and told me the vise was "worth" $400. I just said, c'mon man, we both know it isn't worth anything close to that.

Just b/c Grainger or whoever sells a vise new for some outrageous price doesn't mean sh/t to me.
