Opinions on these T-handles

What is the general opinion on these Craftsman T-handles?

Anyone have any experience with these?

i've had the regular L wrenches from craftsman for about 3 years now, and have used them a LOT (sometimes even abused w/ a wrench locked on for extra torque), never had to warranty one. If those are made the same as the L wrenches, you should be okay w/ them. Other companies may have cooler looks, or a more comfortable handle though.

I have the Matcos at work (basically that one with a Green handle) and like 'em quite a bit.

I got a set on sale for $17.50. I mostly use 4,5,6mm and the corners on those t-handles begin to show some rounding. Here's a picture of what a 4mm looks like after about 9 months of occasional use.

I have had the full set of these in my cart for a while now (along with some other stuff). Im waiting for the next big sale though.

ilya, have you tried to get these warrantied?

I haven't tried to replace the worn t-handles under warranty yet. Actually I wanted to ask you guys if I'd have much trouble getting it warrantied at Sears. Do you think this amount of wear is sufficient?

If it slips or is damaging fasteners, then i would try and replace it. I know several of the employees at our sears, so i know they would not give me a hard time about it. If your worried they will give you grief over it (even though it does not function properly), well then...get creative!

I have the Bondhus hex t-handles and the Craftsman tamper-torx t-handles. I like both of them. The C-Man grips are comfortable and durable and the torx tips have not shown any significant wear yet. I do like that the C-Man's have the stubby end too, unlike the Bondus drivers.

Could you be more specific as to why you like Bondhus's T-handles? The prices I have seen are cheaper than the Craftsman sets.

I mostly use 4mm t-handle to remove body work from my motorcycle during service, so not even every weekend. The 5mm and 6mm t-handles show less wear. I got a great deal on these t-handles and I don't have any regrets, but I wouldn't pay much more than $20 for this set.

Could you be more specific as to why you like Bondhus's T-handles? The prices I have seen are cheaper than the Craftsman sets.

I too like Bondhus tools. They're comfortable to use, although they do wear a bit quicker than certain premium tools.

You really cannot go wrong with either. I've seen people happy with Cmans, but Bondhus is also a favorite.

They **** to to put it as politely as possible barely good enough for Homer the home owner. If you plan on using more than twice a year be prepared to spend lots of time returning them for exchange.

Froe the same amount of money you can get Whia, Bhondus, and Pedros that will all out last several sets of the CM.

I have always prefered the pedros over the park wrenches, (except the park 10mm for removing freehubs, the pedros wasnt long enough on the short side), I have a mac set now that is about the same size as the pedros, they are pretty nice, but not any better than the bike brands and cost twice as much.

Those craftsman ones look dumb. even if they held up great they look funny.

the bad part about the smaller allen sets is that you have two options ... do you want one that wears out or breaks? the ball end on them is usually my problem. one application i use them in, the long matco sockets were starting to wear again, so i picked up a set of snap on, and i have broken the ball head off of the 6mm probably 3 times in the last 6 months. The snap on never wear out, but they are so hardened that they are actually brittle, which causes them to just snap off.

I have Wiha, Bondhaus, and Craftsmen metric allen T's. I'd rate them in that order.

The Craftsman's are pretty inexpensive when you get them on sale. So cheap I always pick up a few extra sets....

I just took my Craftsman 3/8" metric allen socket set along with a a few other tools back to sears today for replacement. The 5mm and 6mm bits were getting a bit worn. They replaced them without any drama or questions. They didn't ask what was wrong with them, didn't even look at them as near as I could tell! Just went and grabbed replacements off the shelf. I'm sure they would have done the same with the T's.

I think it depends on which store you go to. I hav two Sears about equal distance from me. The first is awful, staffed with know-nothing, do-nothing minimum wage employees, and the other is fantastic with employees who actually seem to kinda like their job, know a bit about the products they are selling, and actually try to help customers!

I've got that set (as well as the standard). Use them constantly on my kart (esp. 4/5/6/8). I've never had an issue. Do they wear? Yes. Do the ball ends wear faster? Yes. I just knock them off with a dremel cutting wheel.
I got them for the $17.50 price, so at less than $2 ea., I don't expect them to last forever. On a kart, everything is so compact, you end up using them as some really tight / weird angles, so I'm pretty impressed that they don't wear faster.

I did have to warranty the older style (solid silver handle). Guess what? They give you a whole new set! I took just the broken one in, and they said "No, we need the full set." So I got a new set for a broken 6mm.

Don't worry, a lot of us secretly do buy tools just b/c they're pretty looking. That's not a good thing, but well, it's a real factor sometimes.
