+1 on the streamlight. I've got a luxeon jr, and im still impressed with it every time i go to use it. Carry some spare AA batteries if your concerned with it getting dim during field work.

FWIW, i've used Eklind allen products for the past 10 years. Don't have any complaints. They all fit snugly into the hex bolt/screw and none of the corners are rounding on the tools. I find them to be a real good value.

Never hurts to try, and getting on part time as a helper would probably give you a lot of first hand knowledge. Obviously I don't know how much you know about the HVAC trade but I know when I started my apprenticeship I didn't know to much about Shipfitting. Well we started out in the classroom, learning different things. Nothing really made much sense into we actually started working with a journeyman and then it's like a light bulb went off.

I know some of the basics.

Not even sure how i would go about finding anything out about getting an apprenticeship. Also, there are alot of cold storage fruit/produce wearhouses around here, and i really doubt i would have a snowballs chance in hell at geting a job at one of those off the street. espcialy the ones that use ammonia as a coolant.
