It's a nice quality starter box, but agreeing with Charlie, you'll probably outgrow it if you're like a lot of folks. I started out with a 42" roller cabinet and now have it as well as a second 42-inch with matching top box and side cabinet.

Why don't you spend the amount you have on a nice rollcab? You'll be able to get all the tools in it you own now, and later when you "outgrow it" you can get the top box for it.

Otherwise it's a good starter box, and you can always sell it later on if you need to get a larger one.

The nice thing about the rollcab is you can use the top of the box as a bench if you put a wood or steel table top material on top of it, then pull it off later when you get the topper.

Great ideas guys. Since I'm a tool noob, I wasn't thinking that far out in the future. I will go with a larger rolling cabinet then add to it as my collection grows.

I just love this site! :)

Since you are in a garage junkie forum, nobody will ever say that is large enough. The whole answer depends on your needs. I have 2 triple stacked craftsman boxes, one double stacked machinist box, one Snap on double stacked with a box on the side and a roll around Craftsman and guess what! It still isn't enough. I will more than likely trade them all in on a SNAP ON KRL 1003 box with top chest. Just can't get enough room when you are a tool junkie!

That is identical to the one I bought last year, ball bearing drawers. If you hold out wait a little and Sears should run the same combo with a free middle box, I think mine is a four drawer :dunno: A avereage guy that does a little wrenchin should get a long fine with that size

You really need to think it through. Personally I like a couple of larger drawers that I have dividers in to store my pliers because I don't mind digging for them in a small pile. But that same height of a pile of wrenches would be a nightmare of digging to find the right one, so I like the thinner drawers for that. And I like several thinner drawers for all the possible wrench styles. If you don't mind digging for the right screwdriver, whench, ratchet or extension then the deeper drawers are OK. I also don't care for side by side smaller drawers because they seem to gather junk and waste too much time in the search, a full width drawer with a couple of dividers means you only have to open one drawer instead of two or three. Spend the extra to get the ball bearing rollers. Actually that 8 draw craftsman posted earlier is very nice; large top draw for sockets, a good mix of a few shallower draws and larger ones. But thats looking at it from working on a car point of view, a woodshop worker may have other needs for tool storage I'm not aware of.

I went down to my local Sears to check out the 40in rolling cabinets.

I love those things but its a little too spendy for me now. I guess I'll just have to keep saving and/or run across one of these in a garage sale.

Buy the biggest roll cab you can afford now. Down the road, buy a top box. When those two are full, buy a middle box.

If you are particular about organization, you well fill a tool chest up in no time with dividers, wrench racks, socket holders, and trays. Of course it is easier to find tools and you can look in a drawer and notice if any thing is missing. On the down side, space fills up fast. If you just dump things in drawers, they won't "fill" up as fast, but you'll waste alot of time digging through piles of tools to find the one you need.
