I want to get set up so I can do some sandblasting. I know my current compressor isn't up to the job. I'm just a hobbyist so I don't want to spend a boat load of money. I saw this over the weekend at Home Depot and thought it was in the range I can afford. I'd like to hear whether the more experienced people here think this one is up to the job.

I would pass. It is not a two stage and would have trouble keeping up if you have much to blast.

^^^ It's a "toy" and not up to the task.

For sandblasting you need lots of CFM and a high duty cycle. That separates the men from the boys when it comes to compressors.

Maybe you can farm out your sandblasting and get by with that unit for hobbyist work.

You can get a lot more bang for your buck buying a used industrial unit.

I don't know how much sandblasting you plan on doing but I bought this compressor
http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200455341_200455341
and have used the snot out it with a bench top blasting cabinet. I also used a small pressure pot setup one time a 42 inch mower deck and it worked well. I will admit the pressure pot setup did require me to wait a couple of times but for me it was fine because it gave me time to reposition my piece.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. That Puma looks like it might fit the bill. Like I said, I'm really just a hobbyist, so I'm not going to need an all out heavy duty unit - just something that will be able to keep up with occasional sandblasting work.

Without knowing the specs on the blaster NO ONE can tell you if that compressor will do the job or not.
