Thanks but The only problem is that that one is not reversible and I need one that can go in both directions

Out of curiosity what are you using this for that you both need it and need one that is reversible? Over the years I've had very little use for these for the type of work I do anyway...

So if you cut something you didn't want to you can go back :)

I have a similar one- http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002STSOY/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I can't speak for the quality of the Sunex, the Chicago Pneumatic is great, though admittedly I used one from Harbor Freight before that and it did just fine, too.

As for the reversible function, I can maybe think of a few times it would have been a little handy to have it, but never a necessity... Perhaps your needs are different.

In all honesty, though, I usually reach for the die grinder with a cutoff wheel adapter. Much smaller tool, fits in smaller spots.

Only complaint I had with the 426 is how IR packaged it up in the box.Could not find the wrenches for it at first.Had to completely unpackage it and were in the bottom of the box.I keep the receipt in my gun safe at home so I know where it is.

I prefer a right angle cutter. Need it to throw sparks the other direction? Flip it over.

it would be hard to use anything that big on hydraulic fittings in some of the tight places i have to get in to cut the fittings and the hydraulic hoses on car carriers

IR now has a reversible cut off tool, the 426.I bought mine under $100.00 through an auto parts store.I like the reversible cut off tools, keeps the sparks away from you.Do have to watch with the sparks, burned my work shirt in one small spot which I did get the fire out right away.

is it just my old eyes or does the ir 426 look almost the same as the sunex one except just a different name cover

I didn't look at the HP ratings, but dedicated cut off tools are usally more HP than a die grinder.

I have a newer MAC cut off tool I picked up somewhere. Definitely more ballsy (and less RPMS) than my die grinders (Dotco, Cleco, ARO, IR etc).

I hardly ever use the cut off tool, but glad I have it. I'm sure the Sunex is fine. Is the new IR even made in the states anymore? I did not google it....

EDIT: the IR 426 has variable speed (under the trigger) I can't tell if the Sunex has that as well or not. The Sunex website ***** and doesn't give a whole lot of info. http://www.sunextools.com/index.cfm?s=detail&subcat=144&item=192

Here's IR specs: http://www.ingersollrandproducts.co...g-tools/air-cutting-tools/426/modelspec/41431

Somethings not jiving...the Sunex says it uses 3.6 CFM and the IR uses 26 CFM. :dunno:

I don't have that cutoff tool, but I do own some Sunex air tools and they have been very good.

For the guy that mentioned not liking the guard on the cutoff tool, I've removed the guards on all the cutoffs tools I've owned.

I've got a Matco cut off tool that is reversible, it was recommended to me by a tech rep thst I deal with and figured if he touted it than it must be something worth checking out. He was right it was, the guard is adjustable so you can reposition it to get the trigger in a different position if need be and plenty powerful. Just use a good quality disc with it as the cheaper ones will come apart rather quickly.

Although mine came with 5 discs,I did get a box of 100 cut off wheels for it,that was about $100.00 too and don't have to worry about running out of them
