Looking at trading for a 3-bay(?) Matco box, but don't know a lot about them. What is the general consensus on these particular boxes, and any reason to pass on one? Anything specific to look out for? Would it be a solid deal at around $1300-1400?

Is this a 4s box ? If so its comparable to the snap on classic series or the mac tech series. Good solid boxes. Better than anything you can buy in a store. Considering you would pay that with tax on a 72" form HF or Menards. I say buy it. I would if I had the chance to

Ok that's a performance series. Older version of the 4s box. If its in good condition then i say buy it. Maybe offer 1k ? Cant hurt.

First off, that price is good for a 3bay anything that comes off a tool truck, but as Brown said...always offer less.

Second, a lot of guys complain about the interior of the super structure not being painted and rusting. Pull the bottom drawer and look inside the cabinet. I never thought the surface rust that was found on Matco boxes were that serious but it might be a good negotiating tool if you find any. Good box. I have the same one in blue. Bought it in 2005 and it's held up very well for the money. I believe I paid around $4k new. I'd say anything under $1500 is a good deal.

The older matco boxes are great buy used, don't hold price or sell as quick as snapon but they just as good .
I like the older 75 and 85 series boxes, been using 3 of them I picked up used for years in daily auto repair no bother, potentially one of few used truck bargain prices in used market .
The proformance is pretty nice box, same layout as the 4325 4s series, not keen on gloss black but if it tidy 1100 to 1300 not a lot of money for what you getting, if scruffy then 7-800 bucks or what you see fit from viewing .

Can't go far wrong on that grade of box for what harbor freight or husky money .
I had plenty good matco box used deals over the years and currently one of few that still can be found at a great deal for truck quality .
The second trick is viewing it asap even if means up late or early, messing up plans etc, those who sit around talking about it for days going miss real deals every time .
Enjoy the box .

Seems more than fair for a 72x25 used truck grade box.
even sweeter if didn't travel too far and condition very decent ...

So far, I am pretty impressed with this box. I haven't had a chance to start filling it with tools yet, but I do like the layout of the drawers. Now, I just have to decide if I want to leave the top open as a work space, or throw a couple more boxes on it...

Just saw a two bay version of one on craigslist for $3,500. So it seems like you got a good deal.

I see truck boxes on CL all the time, and they either never sell or go muuch cheaper than posted.

I have 2bay 7525's and never paid more than 800bucks, CL has some right dreamers

Glad OP liking the box, they very decent and better priced used if act quick and bargain well .
I would leave top open as love the countertop space.
If you need more storage or just collect junk on a countertop then a upper box maybe good, very much a personal choice and only you going know what best for your situation .

It's amazing how cheap I have bought boxes for compared to the asking price. They've taken less than half the asking price listed. You'd think they would relist with a 25% reduction but cash talks I guess. Anyone who buys a box of the truck is a fool considering the used options and cost IMO. Just casually browsing CL in the evenings I've picked up things like a KRL7002 for 1100. My current box is a KRL1001B with brushed drawer trim and SS top I picked up for 1600. I started with a heritage series 2 bay and slowly worked my way up the CL ladder. At this point my box(es) have paid me to own them :)

I would guess that the majority of people buying them off the trucks are doing it for the payment plan, nothing more....not a lot you can get off CL making weekly payments.

I bought my box on promo for $2200. List price at the time was $3300. Today the box is listed for over $5000. It's a KRL1056.

Sounds like a lot for a single bank to me. I imagine that promo included a trade in? Even if it didn't for 2200 I could get more than twice the box.

It's a single bank, but the drawers are almost 28 inches deep. No trade in and no receipt. After I handed the dealer the money, I asked him if he'd remember me giving him the cash. He said, "What cash?"

For 600 less you could have had this KRL1001B with SS top, brushed alum drawer guards and brand new ISO Ride casters. For 600 more you could have had the brand new cart too. What your dealer did is standard operation for cash purchases.
These are far from my best deals on CL but they are what I ended up using as my personal boxes to keep and after so many different box and cart sales. I worked it to where I was actually paid to own these and it only cost me time. I still own a slew of other boxes and carts that are free and clear as well only costing time purchased for pennies on the dollar.

Pretty much what I done, bought and sold used boxes to extent had covered my own storage boxes and cash in my pocket.
Even if don't flip some boxes prices can be almost free as most deprecation already gone so you could sell it after using it for potentially close to no loss .
