I can tell you immediately that the "6 HP" sticker is a lie. At the listed 10.2 CFM, it's likely only around 3 HP. The 125 PSI is also kind of a bummer, as it means the compressor is either going to cycle a lot.

IMO it's a hard sell at $400 It's a low pressure, low end, single-stage compressor. I'd probably pay $300 for it. They're $600 new, and the current models are advertised with the more-correct "3.7" HP.

I'm not saying it's a bad compressor, just that you could probably do better.

That seems like a LOT for a 26 year old compressor.

What do you plan on using yours for? Reason I ask is the first one was a single stage and this is a two stage.

Yeah, but they don't make em like that anymore! lol! :lol_hitti

Basic shop use. But will eventually need to run a blast cabinet and maybe an outside media blaster. I have a lot of car parts to clean that went through a fire.

I'm no compressor expert, but that CH Premium line looks like more-of a $500 compressor to me, if you were going to spend that much, $800, I think I'd save a bit more and look for something like an I-R T30 used, or something similar. A 10 cfm output isn't going to do it for you trying to run a blasting cabinet. I think 15-20 cfm is more of what you need, and with a higher psi is what I would be searching-for.

I know the first one I posted is, as was pointed out, But the second one too?

The second one is a much better compressor than the first one. But the price isn't really a 'good deal'.

We have the same issue around here. Used compressors - even 20 to 40 year old ones - sell for 70% of the price of new.

If you really want to have the greatest range of capabilities, such as blast, then you want 80 gallon tank, 15+ SCFM, two stage pump.

I went through this same process recently. I had a "5 HP" (they used to lie about HP ratings) direct drive, oil less 20 gallon compressor, with around 5 SCFM. And it was painfully loud. I finally decided that there was no point in a 'minor' upgrade.

Keep shopping. Take a look at Tractor Supply if you have them in your area, as they have really good prices on Ingersoll Rand compressors.

Depending on condition the second one could be good. CH isn't a premium name when taking about 80 gallon compressors but that one looks like they made a real effort. I would guess it's two stage but that's not clear from the picture. It has a 1700 Rpm 23A motor (true 5hp) and a magnetic starter. I'm not sure what the other box or red thing is. The red part might be an after cooler or inner cooler. My biggest concern would be there condition of the pump and tank. Probably fine but I would want to know before buying. If the thing is what I think it is, it's a good 80 gallon, 5 hp model that would retail for over $2k today. Worth a look if you need that much compressor.

I looked at the IR one at Tractor supply. It looks nice but where I use to work we had two IR just so they could work on one while the other ran! Always breaking down.

Don't confuse now with then. Ingersoll Rand, Champion, Quincy, Campbell Hausfield, Sanborn, Saylor-Beal, et al, formerly manufacturers of industrial duty compressors, have whored out their name for imported junk sold in the big box stores.

Sometimes, it's possible to find one of the good old stuff which hasn't had too hard a life. For twenty years, a friend has been using a 5hp two stage Atlas Copco which had been working in a mine for twenty years. He changes the oil once a year.

Yeah, that's kinda sorta why I've been keeping an eye on CL for a used one.

The last one I posted looks a little older.
