Opinions on this used Mac Tool box

There was a very clean version of that top box listed for $200 in the Tampa Bay area recently.
I don't think it lasted 24 hours.

It is only worth what you are willing to pay for it. If you're going to fix and re-sell the box then may be it is priced too high. If you're going to fix and personally use the box then it is probably priced right.
I was going to just clean it up and keep it. I like the patina. It's been listed on a local Facebook yard sale site since October 7th. I just PM'd the guy to see what his best price is since he's been sitting on it for almost 2 months.

Here is my find. $500 is what I paid. Tore it apart cleaned rails and box, lubed up all rails with paraffin wax and used some polish and wax on the box itself.

The bottom is pretty rough looking. In order to truly evaluate the boxes, you need to see them in person and open each and every drawer to see how smooth they work. The boxes also appear to be quite old which will affect value.
All that said, if the drawers work well, the price in not out of line but $250 would be better of course.

Seems high in my opinion, and probably so or it would have sold already. But as others have said, it depends on a lot of factors.
Me personally? No, I would not spend $350 on that box or virtually any other of that size/vintage for that matter.

If it were me, I'd do 250.00 if the slides worked and the drawers weren't too badly tweaked. I like these old Mac's they are tough old boxes and would look great next to an old car/hot rod with some elbow grease.

I wouldn't do more than $250 tops, that roller looks like it's lived hard.

Too much, that's the narrow version. The wider one (40"ish) only sells for that in really nice condition as a set, and that bottom box looks rough. They're nice boxes but a tough sell IMO, too new to be cool vintage, not new enough to be really desirable.

Zkling, just an observation and in no way intended to be a shot at you but, you make that exact statement about EVERY box questioned here. Do you live in some area unbeknownst to the rest of the world where all tool boxes go for <$20 every hour of every day? I mean, for cripes sake I snagged that MAC/SO stack, absolutely chock full of Snap-On tools for $300 and your comment was "Good deal after I saw the air tools," only two of which worked at all by the way. Hell, I sold 1 wobble impact set for what I paid for the boxes fully loaded!
Again, I'm simply making an observation and not trying to start something with you Zkling.
I'm not saying this particular box is a good or bad deal, I'm saying in my opinion, the price is fair, but I'd try to get it for less.

buy it, take stickers off, don't clean it, grease the runners, load it up and use it. Proper shop toolbox.
Just adding some hard earned knowledge.
Keep in mind, at the end of the day I am a user first and a "that's cool"/collector distant second. You disagree with me, yet you basically agree with me.
And, be very careful about using absolutes (in this case 'every'), they tend to bite one's *** very hard.

Yeah, I hear ya. Shoulda prefaced with "seems like every...." As you're aware, I've snagged these boxes for great and not so great prices, but I love them. My users are all big SO boxes but I have "just a couple" older examples in more of a collection.
In the end, I suppose they're worth as much as we're willing to pay.

The way I see it.... this size and drawer amount in a new box would be really pricey. Then you get upset at every ding nick or scratch. With a vintage box. It has the look, it has the functionality, and the character. All at a fraction of the cost of a new one. And it just gets better as it continues to age. Sure, you dont have fancy ball bearing slides and an electric green paint job, but it works just the same. Have have a ball bearing box at home, and don't really favor the feel of the drawer one over the other. But I do dig and appreciate vintage. Just make sure slides and rails are clean and lubed properly. Use paraffin wax, works really well, and the drawers work better the heavier they get.
