Opinions on this used Sanborn compressor

I'm in the market for a compressor upgrade. I'm on the fence between buying new (probably a box store IR 60 gallon single stage) or used. I've been perusing Craigslist and I've seen a lot of stuff in the $800 - $1,000 range which I'm willing to spend for the right thing but then just this evening this Sanborn popped up for $325. It looks used but not abused an it's unique in that it's a 60 gallon tank vs 80 that's typically on a big 2 stage like this. That actually works better for where I want to put it and it will be (marginally) easier to load and transport.

Just because I'm willing to spend more doesn't mean I want to and if this will meet my needs for a least a few years, it seems like a bargain.

Any idea what the CFM specs might be?

Is this a deal or am I missing something?

you won't lose money on that. no it's not top of the line but but plenty good for the price. i would jump on it.

yes, but that will beat the pants off one of them. i doubt you will find a new 2 stage for much less than a grand.

It's a good deal. Buy it and change the oil and drain moisture from tank frequently. That will be a better unit than most of any 60gallon single stage units from any of the box stores. CFM is likely ~17-18

Not a bad deal, 5hp is a hefty amp draw (22a@230v with need a 30A 230v plug & circuit), no idea what CFM that compressor will do but probably 12-18 CFM @ 90/100 PSI, maybe more; good for a residence.

Hurry up and contact him to get in front of the line before it's too late; it wont last long. 60-80 gal up right are in demand in LA and as others have said, they generally sell for way more. I'm betting there will also be other goodies he's selling as it might sound like he's cleaning out dad's shop? I've seen them sell for less in LA but usually has an issue or an old horizontal.

When looking at it, try draining the tank and see how much rust is in the water. Dad may have not used it for a long time with water sitting inside the tank, he's located close to the ocean.

No number but I've reached out via CL message. How would I even get it in my truck if it's just at someone's house? No forklift etc.

2 ways too load it, one is get it close to the bed and just tip over and slide in.other would be take off the motor and pump and load separate. Also can just drain the oil and lay on its side.

For $325 I wouldn't pass it up, hell I just sold my Craftsman 30 gallon six months ago for $200 and they guy was quite happy with the deal.

If Sanborns quality is the same as it was thirty years ago then you shouldn’t have any issues. I bought a 3hp 30 gallon in the eighties and it still runs like new today.
