Opinions on Tool Vault?

I have simply ran out of space in my current box. I've re-organized it a couple of times to try and get some more room, but came up short of where I want to be, so I'm looking at adding another box.

My garage space is slightly limited so I'd like to get rid of one of my benches (move it to my basement workshop) and replace it with a rolling box with a work surface.

Because I don't do this for a living, I really don't want to pay tool truck prices if at all possible. In my searching, Tool Vault has come up a few times and they have a 72x30" cabinet that seems like it would fit the bill. It's a hair more than I really want to spend, but I figure it really should last me a long time.

I've been keeping my eye on Craigslist and Facebook marketplace for a while now, and it seems that people in my area want damn near new prices for their used tool truck brand boxes.

Does anyone here have any experiences with Tool Vault products? I dont know of any locally, so getting my hands on one to fondle would be tough without actually taking the plunge.

Thanks!

I spoke with them when looking to order a box for myself and they were helpful to with looking to customize it a bit. But for the price if you have a trailer and a Harbor freight close by that might be a good option.

what about the masterforce 72"x24", on sale it way under half the tool vault .
A older Matco 28" deep 3bay be good used buy , you got hunt hard and act fast these days and put word out with everyone you know .
I wouldn't put 3K in a new off brand box unless a real must .

I have no experience with the tool vault. However, I have been looking at a new box myself. I am strongly considering the homak rs series at 1599 for the bottom or 2499 for top and bottom combo . Possibly able to find them cheaper from a distributor.

I’ve been looking into the Homak also but it drives me crazy that their wide top drawer only has one set of slides on it. Seems like it should easily have two slides on each side for the extra weight that could go in that drawer. NAPA has them on sale a little cheaper than the price you quoted. The Tool Vault does look pretty nice also.

Swapping out two shallow full width drawers for a deeper on. Would take time for it to get here on the boat but it was do able and not terribly priced

I thought it was stated by an actual owner & member here in the thread on these boxes that the upper drawer does in fact have 2 sets of slides despite what product specs say.

Otherwise I think everyone is missing that OP started out looking for a 72x30". EVERYTHING else I have seen suggested is 24"

You pay a premium for the super deep box but even at $3k I think it's arguably worth it.

I think the box linked at the start is also marketed as Montezuma. You can even find 'em on Amazon but the pricing is no better

Re the RS Pro Homak, at about 4:00 you clearly see 2 sets of slides on the upper wide drawer, and at 5:30ish he mentions more about which drawers get double slides.

Again, not saying this helps OP as the box is a 24"D

I've owned one of these for about three years. I don't use it every day, but for the money I am very well satisfied with the quality. Slides are good, detents work, super nice casters... That being said, if I were doing this every day I would be on the look out for a used Snap On or a scratch and dent Lista, as the metal on those just seems to be thicker and a little heavier duty than this box

Strictly toolboxes was (is?) a long-time advertiser on the GJ and has a good reputation from those who have bought. The box you listed looks to be really good for the price-- it's almost twice the weight of the comparable HF 72" unit, which tells me it's not skimping on metal. It's also twice as heavy as this SnapOn Triple Bay Classic:

I noted it 30" hence suggesting 28" used matco, Point is does he want pay twice price for extra 6"
If he really need/want 30" then it going be spendy and limited .
IF 24" suitable options are much broader .

Looks like you have a Harbor Freight in town. If you haven't done so already swing by and give the 72 inch box a look. I picked one up a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I'd have a hard time believing the Tool Vault brand is of any better quality. The only drawback is your only color choice right now in the 72 inch is red.

I am not knocking the HF, but it doesn't really compare to the Tool Vault 72". The drawer are much more stable and smooth gliding on the TV.

I tried to find something comparable to Tool Vault but in a smaller size 41" (TV doesn't have that size), I ended up purchasing a Homak that claims the same thickness metal, but the drawers are squeaky and overall disappointing for what I paid for it, (twice as much as the same size HF).

I have a tool vault box. the 55" combo with side locker. Ive had it for maybe 5-6 years. Its been well for me. I was a heavy equipment mechanic, so it has some heavy tools in it. Its been moved a few times and held up well. The only thing ive down is lube the drawer slides. IMHO great box and great customer service.

....and then he gets 22". OP your desired work surface keeps getting more and more shallow! :D

I will say one reason I couldn't bring myself to get the 72" HF was the 22" depth. I've been working out of 24" deep KRLs and it honestly seems just right. 2" of drawer depth IS and CAN BE very significant. I know the HF is about 5" TALLER than most other 72's but I didn't really care to put a top chest that high

I was really tempted by the 30" deep Montezumas (which again, appears to be OPs first choice for size) but being right in front of my 2 post I also didn't want to LOSE 6" of space at the nose of the vehicle

One more thing: the drawers on my KRL are 21.75" inside. According to the video I posted (from a GJ user) the Homak drawers are 21.125". So I'll be losing 5/8" interior drawer depth going to Homak RS Pro

I have the Tool Vault Elite 72" 17 Drawer Tool Cabinet and I LOVE IT.
Pros: Well made heavy gauge steel.
Very nice work surface.

Cons: Draws are tight "hard to open" this is only minor issue made better by greasing slides.
IMO not enough shallow draws for my liking , may work for you.

Overall I would highly recommend this for any professional or DIYer. I have owned several tool truck brands over the years and I can't justify the added expense, as the Tool Vault Elite is as good, if not better than the big name boxes.

I have a Tool Vault 72 inch x 25 deep upper and lower. I also have a 56 inch x 25 Tool Vault lower. I am ordering the matching 56 inch upper next month. I replaced several Snap On boxes with these Tool Vault boxes and never looked back. I wont say they are Snap On clones but my Snap On guy was very impressed with the quality.
