picked up the combo off of craigslist.... obviously the bottom has been repainted, but still functions very well. The top is overall pretty worthless since its only 12"s deep, but i think will work very well for my machine bits. Now the question is did i make out okay on this .... and just to see i'm not going to post what i paid for it yet! Oh and if anyone has info on the bottom box i would be curious of an aprox date, or where to look for a date code.

Bottom seems pretty beefy, I just picked it up today, so i haven't had a lot of time to load it up and actually use it.

I was kinda in a hurry to get something to get some more of my stuff secured since we have had mold removal guys in the house, and soon to have someone doing drywall and who knows what else in the near future. my cart was so overflowed that it wouldn't really lock w/ everything in it. Not that i don't trust the guys doing the work, but i know i feel better if i can lock up as much as possible!

If you got the whole setup for around $100 I'd say you made out pretty well. Don't sell that top box short, you'll find a use for it before you know it.

I don't know where you'd look for a date code on a Craftsman rollaway. :headscrat

well i paid more than $100, but then again, it seems like there are far better deals in the rest of the country than in the "so cal" area, so i'm not feeling too bad yet lol.

I'm in SoCal too, bought that bottom in black new with a non function impairing dent in the back for $115, 12" deep top boxes are around $50 in nice shape, but I opted for an 18" deep 3 drawer intermediate on sale from Sears for $125.

Sounds like you paid a fair price for needing something right away.

I have the same bottom box, it's early seventies most likely. Very well built and heavy compared to what you would purchase today. I would say $125 for a decent price.

The top box, probably Waterloo OEM, usely goes for $30-$35 in the pawn shops in my area. The bottom box, a very useable tool cabinet, usually goes for $60-$75 in the pawn shops. So combined, say $90-$110, perhaps a little higher because of condition.

The Craftsman logo style on the bottom box suggests a 1970's date range. You might get lucky and find a date code stamped on the drawer bottom of the top drawer of the tool chest.

I don't know what you actually paid, but these are very usable boxes and should last a long time with reasonable care. Load em up and have fun wrenching!
