Opinions on which floor coating to use??????

Hello,
I am new to the forum. I see there are an abundance of products to
choose from out there. My two priorities are NON SLIP and Durability.

My garage is currently coated with ucoat it, I believe per previous home-owner.
It looks like just tan paint if I didn't know any better. No flakes or anything.
The major reason I want to redo it is because it is so slippery when wet.
There is some peeling of the paint too though. I have carpet runners down right now so my family doesn't slip and fall which is a mess in it self when the runners get wet from all the snow we have been having. (I live in Michigan).

A neighbor of mine did his floor with some cement paint and added some silica sand to the mix for non slip. Seems ok. I would like the look of epoxy though.
I am worried the epoxy would be too slippery though.

What should I do?

An option, if you like the color of the ucoat, you should be able to "patch" the peeling, and then prep it for a surface coat that will be non-slip or have granules in it to non-slip.

The other option is to remove this coating (grind, etch, etc) so it would be a fresh surface to work with and try another epoxy that will meet your needs.

Epoxy does not EQUAL slippery....there is prep and several types of top coats that will keep you safe, even when wet.

Tons of info here, and several manufacturers who would love to see you have a great floor and to have it last a long time.

I was thinking of doing a re coat but I am concerned it wouldn't last because
I was told it needs to be dimabrushed. If I can just clean it with an abrasive
cleaner and recoat with a non slip additive that would be ideal.

Sorry but ucoatit blows. I put it down yrs ago when I didn't know better. Take it off. Tile or put down legacy or epoxy coat Best bet

If your floor is already experiencing peeling, the best choice is to grind it all off and redo your floor. It's going to be more labor intensive to do this but it will save you money and time in the long run.

You can then apply an epoxy primer followed by a color coat of your choice. Add flakes if you like to the color coat. For a good non-slip floor, add a coat or two of polyurethane as the final coat with a product such as Shark Grip or something similar in the last coat. Because polyurethane goes down thinner, it provides for a great medium for this type of non-slip additive. If you want something more aggressive, you mix in aluminum oxide granules, but they are not forgiving to bare feet and make it more difficult to clean the floor.
