Anyone care to offer an opinion on which of these two boxes you would lean towards?

The Mastercraft Maximum goes on sale this week for roughly 50% off for both top and bottom. It's also a 56" box compared to the HF 42". The reviews for the Mastercraft seem really good.

I will be grabbing both top and bottom of whichever one I end up going with.

I prefer red but not a deal breaker.

Any one with any exposure to both boxes, particularily the Mastercraft box care to chime in? I know all about the HF but am curious if someone could compare the two.

Thanks.

I have a masterhand 40 top box, and a 41 HF bottom. Iirc, masterhand went to masterforce? If that's the case, there almost on part with one another. For me it would come down to drawer layout preference and cash.

Masterhand = Tractor Supply
Masterforce = Menards
Mastercraft = Canadian Tire <--this is the one the OP is referring to

Confusing. right?

For some reason, the Mastercraft looks a little flimsy...

The HF boxes have a very good reputation on the board...

For about $1,320.00, approximately, you can have TWO HF roller cabinets and TWO HF chests...

Then you would have to buy more tools to fill them up!!!

Don't thank me now, thank me later...

The depth of the drawers (front to back) is what's driving me to the 56" units since the base cabinet will also serve as a bench top support and I don't want a lot of wasted space behind the cabinet, nor do I want to have the cabinet pushed up against the wall and have a lot of overhang with the actual work surface it will be supporting.

It sounds like you will have a unique setup with using the bottom as part of a bench so you need to choose what works best. Price seems great for the 56" when on sale. Adding the top box will give you lots of short drawer storage and you will sill get a good amount o tall drawers in the bottom box.

Mastercraft - Canadian
HF - American

I doubt that there is anybody on this forum that actually has both to give you an honest opinion.

I have my HF 44" under my workbench. I took the wheels off and set it on a 1/2" piece of plywood to keep it off the concrete. I lose a little space to the back but in my garage there is a ledge that runs around the outside that prevents you from pushing all the way to the wall. Anyhow, it keeps the box out of the way and makes use of the space that would have (and was once) just a basic shelf. Looking back I should have bought two HF bottom boxes and found another home for my older 26" two box stack. I would have put both bottom boxes and maybe thrown in a side box and built a long workbench on the one wall of my garage. In fact, I might still do it at some point but not today.

To the OP, I would go with the HF bottom and if more space is needed, find room for another bottom or get a cart. The top box is fine but the drawer layout on the HF top feels like it could have been better managed for the use of space. The drawers are too deep for a top box for my use.

The master craft box looks very similar to menards Masterforce. The Masterforce price is more in line with the sale price. Wonder if they are the same source. Honestly if they are the Masterforce is a sturdier box IMHO. The Masterforce has grip latch which is nicer than the HF lock, and they have more color options. Don't know of menards would be an option but I thought I would mention so you could attest compare similarities.
