Alright fellows,

I found a reed 3ca. It's in good to excellent condition, but missing the pipe jaws. The serrations on the jaws are a bit smushed, but there are no scars on the vise or slide.

I wish it was an old reed 3c, the CA seems to be puny comparatively. Hollow castings throughout, and apparently made by Columbian.

Price is $200, pretty firm. I almost grabbed it but I needed to give it some thought. I'm thinking about making pipe jaws for it and reselling. Think I could get an easy $400 for it or is that crazy thinking?

I'd love to keep it but I'd rather have the old style.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Alex

$200 would be on the high end of what I would pay assuming it still had the pipe jaws and was in good condition. The market for used $400 vises isn't very big. You might end up sitting on it for a long time.

any pictures you can share? my guess you are paying the price you should pay for a vise that already has nice jaws and one that is bigger too. also if the value is in the age (antique) of it, the brand new jaws will not find those buyers. pictures would help.

I have no pictures. At the end of the day it's something I don't want, but I think the price is pretty fair for what it is.
