Optimum building size

I have seen a few threads that discuss the building sizes that make best use of standard sizes of lumber and other materials. I can't seem to find those threads this morning. I would appreciate either a link to one of those threads or your collective thoughts on which building sizes make the most efficient use of standard building materials. I am just in the beginning planning stages, but I expect my future garage to be somewhere in the 30' by 40' range.

I believe metal also has standard lengths of 10 and 20 feet.

No such thing as "optimum"...build it the size you want and don't worry about it. I've seen those threads and it doesn't add up when you actually sit down and figure things out.
