This.
They're in the 97 Industrial catalog listed as 'new' .
The black handle versions are there also but they had been around longer.

Apparently both the black and orange handles were available as late as '03. Here is the "Hand Tools" section from that years catalog; professional drivers start on page 14: Craftsman 2003 Catalog Section 4

Really neat to look through and find things you never knew existed, like the high visibility pliers on page 4. You can download other sections as well as the entire catalog here: BT Industrial

The first versions of those had a hard plastic handle. A later version had a soft grip handle with the blade type marked on top of the handle. They were made by western forge. The craftsman name, part number vaporized with the first contact with brake clean. I Think should they have kept the design. In fact SK should have western forge make them with green handles.

Thanks for that link.
I noticed that they had high vis screwdrivers with hard plastic handles too.
I think I might like those even better since the pro handle drivers I have get really oily and hold it (it doesn't matter as much because they're the black ones).
If I see either in common sizes though I'll grab them .

Orange hard handles pop up on eBay every now and then (price varies from reasonable to outrageous). I have also seen pictures of red, green and black hard handles.
