Hey,
I've been working on this garage for the past year, finally thought it was about far enough along to post some progress pictures. I have been color matching most things in the garage orange, as you can probably tell, I like things to have a general theme to them, as others on here also seem to enjoy. The layout is an oversized two car, with about 660sqft of floorspace. I'll start with what I started from and what I ended up with. thanks for looking.

The house was built in 1952, Im trying to keep as much of the character that it originally had, exposing the floor joists also gave me some extra clearance. All of the wood on the walls is just 3/4" plywood ripped at random length, spaced with about a 1/16" gap in between slats, its mostly just decorative.

Looks good! Question though, looks like the wall next to your craftsman toolbox, and the wall in front of that one, looks crooked as frigg. Is it just the camera view/lens or did you build it with that modern - not square look maybe?

it looks like you have quite a bit of room. I like how the 2 cars are split and the center is the work area. The way you have set it up looks really good.

Looks great, really like your style. But man, the layout of that garage is confusing! You said "oversize 2 car" and at 600+ sf all I could think was "that's a 3 car!" but I can see how the layout makes it a 2 car regardless of size.

How is the paint holding up for the ceiling/floor framing? I have all exposed framing in my garage and wanted to paint it all white to give it an even color and add some reflectivity but my neighbor (who is a painter) suggested against it as with this OLD wood (house was built in '42) any light color like that just turns yellow/brown. I tend to believe him as I painted a small part of some of it while working in another area of the garage and I must have put a half dozen coats on until it stopped turning yellow.

You've inspired me to reconsider typical grey colors. I'm far from paint, but it's always something on your mind as you get things done.

I like how your rafter/floor joist are a different color than the deck boards.

the "feature" walls are tapered on purpose, I think it adds a little more character.

As for the ceiling, I sanded/ cut off all the nails that missed the joists, sprayed about 3 heavy coats of latex primer, sanded, and followed up with 3 more heavy sprayed coats of valspar premium high gloss latex. Its been holding up great for over a year now, the wood was definitely thirsty like a sponge, it sealed really well, looks like a coating now. I suppose if it were to yellow I wouldn't notice. Still working on cutting in all the trim/ joists, and some minor sheetrock work before finish painting everything.

I had a black and grey garage before, I really like having bright colors now, and have seen green, blue, or red garages before, but I never seen an orange garage, so that helped alot in the decision making.

This looks amazing... I am totally stealing the artwork behind the TV. Just adds a little something...

Great work! Agreed with what someone else said, nice to see another color other than gray/white, and changes my perspective.

Just the right amount of orange without being loud!

Thanks for that info. Makes me think I may want to try this, although, in my case if it turns yellow it'll look terrible.

I love all the little details. The hose real, the glove dispenser, the jack stands - all are orange now and I *know* they didn't start that way. The band saw is just beautiful. It was a dark small space and the orange really opened it up and makes it feel bigger. Awesome job!!

Thanks, it's takes a little longer to color code everything, but when it all comes together it is really rewarding. Lately it's just been painting all of those wall cabinets and their matching carts. I'll post some more detail shots soon

As others have said lots of character and an interesting choice for color. I like the layout too, seems to make it feel bigger with the different parts being partitioned from one another

It's different, that's for sure, to each their own I guess. No doubt you've put alot of work into it and did an excellent job. Guess I'm just old school. Doesn't all that orange make you a little dizzy?
